Note:

This article shows how to replace the timing belt for a Chevrolet Cruze 1.6 and 1.8.

According to the maintenance regulations, the condition of the timing belt (timing) should be checked every 15 thousand km. It must be borne in mind that a failure of the timing belt (breakage or shearing of teeth) can lead to the valves sticking into the pistons due to the mismatch of the angles of rotation of the crankshaft and camshafts and, as a result, to expensive engine repairs.

Upon reaching the 150 th path. Km belt drive timing Chevrolet Cruze must be replaced regardless of its state.

7. Visually inspect the condition of the Chevrolet Cruze drive timing belt.

Check the condition of the timing belt on the Chevrolat Cruze J300 2008-2016

Note:

The surface of the toothed part of the belt should not have cracks, undercuts of teeth and peeling of the fabric from the rubber, and the reverse side of the belt should not have wear, exposing the cords, and traces of burning. There should be no delamination or loosening on the end surfaces of the belt. If damaged, the belt must be replaced. The belt must also be replaced if traces of oil are found on it (before replacing the belt, the cause of oiling must be eliminated) or when replacing a failed belt tensioner or guide roller.

Note:

Before removing the belt, we set the crankshafts and camshafts to the TDC (top dead center) position of the compression stroke of the first cylinder.

7. Turn the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt until the markings on the crankshaft and on the camshafts match.

Note:

If in this way it was not possible to unscrew the pulley fastening screw, then, by unscrewing the two bolts with the head "15", dismantle the dirt-protection plate covering the gap at the junction of the gearbox housing and the engine oil pan - next to the housing of the inner hinge of the right wheel drive. Insert a slotted screwdriver through the gap between the flywheel teeth and rest it on the differential bearing cover, thereby blocking the crankshaft from turning.

Useful advice:

In order to fix the camshafts from turning when replacing the Chevrolet Cruze timing belt, it is necessary to make a device from a metal plate or angle, and you can also insert a special device and fix the pulleys without removing the cylinder head cover.

WARNING:

To avoid damage to the driving discs of the camshaft position sensors, install the plate so that it does not touch the discs. For this purpose, two recesses are made in the plate.

22. Insert a 6mm Allen key into the belt tensioner pulley and turn the Allen key clockwise. Pull the belt off the roller.

WARNING:

After removing the belt, the crankshaft must not be turned to prevent the valves from sticking into the pistons.

24. If it is necessary to replace the timing belt tensioner on a Chevrolet Cruze, use a Torx T-50 wrench to unscrew its mount.

27. Install all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.

Note:

Before installing the belt, check for the coincidence of the timing marks (see paragraph 13) that the crankshaft and the camshaft actuator housings of the phase control system are installed correctly. If necessary, turn the crankshaft and the camshaft pulleys to the desired position. Place the belt on the crankshaft and camshaft toothed pulleys and guide the belt over the idler pulley. Turn the idler pulley clockwise, wind the belt over it and release the pulley. This will automatically tighten the belt.

Remove the locking tool from the grooves of the camshaft shanks. Turn the crankshaft two turns clockwise using the screw securing the accessory drive pulley.

Recheck the valve timing. If the timing marks do not match, repeat the procedure for installing the Chevrolet Cruze timing belt.

Tighten the screw securing the accessory drive pulley first to a torque of 95 Nm. Then turn 30 ° and then 15 °.
