Checking and topping up engine oil BMW X5
1. Open the front door on the driver's side.
2. On the left under the dashboard there is a hood release lever.
3. Pull it towards you until you hear a click to open the bonnet lock.
4. Raise the hood and lock it in the raised position.
5. The dipstick for checking the engine oil level in the crankcase is located near the shield of the engine compartment in the place shown by the arrow in the figure below.
6. Pull the stylus head up.
7. Remove the dipstick completely.
8. Wipe off oil with a clean cloth.
9. Submerge the dipstick back into the engine crankcase, all the way back.
10. Carefully remove the dipstick again. At its tip there are two marks: "MIN" - the minimum level and "MAX" - the maximum oil level. The normal oil level should be between these marks, closer to the maximum.
11. If the level approaches the minimum or falls below the "MIN" mark, it is necessary to add oil to the norm. The oil is filled in through the oil filler neck, which is located on the cylinder head cover.
12. Unscrew the oil filler cap.
13. Add the required amount of engine oil.
Note:
The oil must be filled in small portions and after that check its level with a dipstick. After filling, wait 2-3 minutes for all the oil to drain into the crankcase.
14. Remove any oil drips and close the oil filler cap.
