Parts and consumables:
- Cloth gloves (as needed)
- Rags
- Funnel (as needed)
- Synthetic motor oil Super Synthetic 5W-30 93165212
Notes:
The manufacturer recommends the use of Opel Astra G engine oil, quality level API SL, viscosity grade SAE 0W-30 or API SL, viscosity grade SAE 0W-40 (depending on climatic conditions). It is permissible to use oils with a viscosity of 5W-30, 5W-40 .
Check the engine oil level regularly, for example every time you refuel the fuel tank. Be sure to check the engine oil level before long driving.
Engine oil plays a critical role in engine performance and durability. An insufficient level will lead to premature engine wear and contamination. Use only high quality engine oil with detergent properties.
Engine oil consumption depends on driving style as well as climatic and road conditions. Oil consumption up to approximately 1 liter per 1000 km is considered normal. A new engine may consume slightly more oil during the break-in period.
Opel Astra G engine oil, engine and components of the exhaust system heat up to high temperatures and, if inadvertently touched, can cause burns.
Checking the oil level should be carried out no earlier than 30 minutes after stopping the engine. If the check is carried out immediately after turning off the engine, some of the oil will remain in the upper part of the engine and will not have time to drain into the sump, as a result of which the measurement result will not be correct.
Top up with original oil of the same brand, viscosity and type as the previously filled one.
Checking the oil level and adding oil engine to the Opel Astra
1. Park the car on a level platform, let the engine cool down and open the hood. The oil filler plug is located on the right side of the cylinder head cover.
The oil level indicator (dipstick) with a yellow plastic tip is located on the front left side of the engine block.
2. Remove the dipstick from the guide tube of the engine before checking the level.
Note:
It is not necessary to exert much effort to remove the stylus. A little scrolling and pressing is only required to move it from its position.
3. Wipe the Opel Astra G dipstick with a clean cloth to keep it dry.
4. Install the dipstick back into the engine guide tube until it stops, wait a few seconds for the oil to leave a mark on the dipstick and remove it again.
5. At the end of the dipstick there are marks: MIN - minimum level and MAX - maximum oil level. The difference in volume between the minimum and maximum oil level is just under one liter. A sufficient oil level for the Opel Astra G should be between these marks, closer to MAX. If the oil level is close to MIN or even below it, add engine oil to the engine.
Note:
MIN and MAX marks on the photo are applied conditionally. They are not on the oil level indicator, they correspond to the lower and upper risks, respectively.
6. To add oil, turn the oil filler cap counterclockwise and remove it.
7. Add the correct amount of oil to the engine while checking the level with the dipstick. Before removing the dipstick, wait 3 minutes for the oil to fully flow into the crankcase.
Note:
The upper mark (MAX) on the dipstick should never be exceeded. Therefore, it is better not to try at all to carry out an ultra-precise, on the upper mark, oil filling into the car engine. Excess oil will be quickly consumed, and burnout contributes to the formation of excessive deposits on engine parts. In addition, when the permissible level is exceeded, the crankshaft more intensively whips and foams the oil in the crankcase, which can in some cases contribute to the deterioration of lubrication.
Oil should be added slowly. It is recommended to do this in small portions. It is necessary to periodically pause so that the oil has time to settle into the crankcase.
Useful advice:
For the convenience of pouring oil into the engine, it is recommended to use a funnel, otherwise there is a risk of its spilling onto the engine block, which will give an unpleasant odor during combustion and can lead to serious problems.
8. After adding oil, tighten the oil filler cap tightly. Clean up spilled liquid with a cloth.
Notes:
Always check the condition of the oil when measuring the oil level. Use your thumb and forefinger to remove any traces of oil from the dipstick blade - if there are small metal particles in it, the oil must be replaced.
Prolonged and frequent exposure of exposed areas of the body to used engine oil can lead to a variety of skin conditions, including dermatitis and skin cancers. Therefore, avoid unnecessary contact with oil and thoroughly wash off any dirt from the skin after work. Therefore, the use of gloves is recommended.
