Tool:

  • Toothbrush
  • Compressor
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Nippers
  • Medium Phillips screwdriver
  • Wire strippers

Parts and consumables:

  • Rags
  • Penetrating lubricant
  • Alcohol
  • Lithol
  • Fan (VAG 3C1820015 M / AA) (replacement if necessary)
  • Running water
  • Paper towels
  • Insulating tape
  • Shrink

Notes:

The gradual accumulation of dust and dirt, which enters the fan with the air flow, leads to the fact that there is a periodic, and then constant noise during the fan operation. This can be corrected only by removing the fan and cleaning it with subsequent lubrication, or replacing it (in the case when cleaning does not help because of the great wear of the fan working mechanism).

Cleaning and lubricating the fan Volkswagen Passat

1. Remove the fan as described in this article .

2. Press out the three clips of the plastic cover and detach the working part of the fan from the cover.

3. Inspect fan and blades for dirt and breakage.

Note:

Both the fan hub and the internal parts of the electric motor and fan blades can get dirty. This leads not only to the appearance of a squeak during rotation, but also to accelerated wear of the electric parts of the electric motor, as well as imbalance of the fan with large volumes of dirt on the blades.

4. Using a brush and possibly a compressor with a vacuum cleaner, clean all parts of the fan from dirt.

5. The parts of the fan can be washed with water, but it is necessary not to allow water to enter the motor winding. Dry the fan thoroughly after flushing.

6. In some cases, it is necessary to disassemble and clean the bushing bearing from the rear of the fan. It usually squeaks due to accumulated dirt and rust. Inside there is a thick, possibly already exhausted, grease (the shelf life under load of any grease, as a rule, does not exceed 5 years). Rust can appear due to the fact that this bearing is at the bottom of the structure and moisture and condensation accumulate in this place. Therefore, lubrication with liquid mixtures without disassembling the bearing can give the desired effect only for a short time (greases of the WD-40 type can evaporate over time, and other options will drain down under the influence of centrifugal force and gravity).

Lubricate the fan ED shaft and the bearing with LITOL-24 grease. It can also be lubricated with a penetrating grease such as Wurth HHS 2000, but dust and dirt adhere strongly to it. Therefore, the top will need to be treated with preservative silicone.

Warning:

Make sure that the grease does not come into contact with the motor winding and other electrical parts of the fan. It is better to cover them with paper first. If the grease still gets into unwanted places, clean them with alcohol and let dry.

7. Reassemble all parts in reverse order and install the fan. Check the operation of the fan and the achieved effect until all panels of the vehicle are fully assembled.

Fan replacement Volkswagen Passat

Note:

It is possible that parts of the fan could be broken or worn out to the point where cleaning and lubricating will not help. Then the option with the replacement remains. Replacing with a new original fan is not difficult and you can only be guided by this article on removing the fan.

We will talk about the example of DENSO air conditioners (LVRL). There are two options for air conditioners and, accordingly, two options for fans for them:

  • CLIMATIC DENSO air conditioner with fan without control module / speed controller;
  • DENSO electronically controlled air conditioner (ie dual zone climate control) with fan with control module / speed controller.

Fan components

The first part is the mounting case or fan frame. If it is intact, it can be used in tandem with a replaceable actuator.

The second part is the control module / speed regulator (VAG 3C0 907 521 F). Its breakdown is unlikely, except in some extreme cases of burnout. It does not affect whistling and crackling. In the event of a breakdown, you can replace it separately from the fan with an original or analogue.

The third part is the mechanism we are considering. The fact is that even a simple version of a fan for a conventional air conditioner (without a control unit) in the original version (VAG 1K1 819 015 E) can cost significantly more than substitutes, and the second, also in the original version (3C1 820 015 M, or 3C1 820 015 P) can cost several times more than the "simple" version of the original fan.

As a result, you can make a kind of assembly. Purchase a variant similar to a "simple" fan, take its executive part and combine it with the existing frame and speed controller. Minor improvements will need to be made.

It should be noted that the fan is held in the casing by three rubber latches and does not touch the base of the frame, which means that balancing will not suffer from such castling.

Inexpensive analogues:

  • Hella 8EW 351 043-211
  • Hella 8EW 351 043-221

Analogues of average cost and acceptable quality:

  • Hans Pries 112 346 755 (made in China, but with the quality of the original, i.e. for sale through a dealer network)
  • Vemo V15-03-1916
  • Valeo 698 809

One of the cheapest analogs (but with occasional reviews about noise):

  • Jp Group 112610020 (manufacturer THERMEX)

It is the last option that is taken as an example in the photographic material below.

1.  Remove the fan as described in  this article .

2.  Unclip the three clips of the plastic casing (1st photo at the beginning of this article) and disconnect the working part of the fan from the casing.

3. Remove the shroud from the new fan in a similar manner.

4. Unscrew the screws securing the control unit from the old fan casing and cut off the contact terminal from the fan itself (with a supply of wires).

5. Cut the terminal off the new fan.

6. Connect the terminal from the old fan to the new one.

7. Insulate the wires so that they can be neatly laid later when connecting the fan to the old casing. Attach the control box to the old cover. Insert the fan into the cover and connect the terminal.

8. Reinstall the fan and check its operation.

The article is missing:
