Parts and consumables:

  • Conditioner spray cleaner
  • Container for draining the used cleaner

Notes:

With prolonged use of a car with air conditioning / climate control, bacteria and dirt accumulate in the ventilation system, which lead to the formation of unpleasant odors and also deteriorate the quality of the microclimate in the car. Periodically, it is recommended to clean the air conditioner evaporator and car air ducts using special products, which are usually produced in the form of a spray bottle with a cleaning foam.

1. To clean the air conditioner evaporator, you must first remove the decorative upper panel at the front passenger's feet and remove the cabin filter. These operations are described in this article .

2. Remove the left trim panel at the front passenger's feet. It must be pry off with your hand from below.

Then pull towards you and towards the gearshift lever.

Be careful not to pull forcibly to avoid damaging the plastic tabs that hold the panel.

3. Pry up the carpet at the passenger's feet on all sides and move it towards the seat.

4. Interior soundproofing is laid under the carpet. On the left, under the removed panel, it is necessary to protrude part of this noise insulation, which hides the pipe for draining condensate from the air conditioner.

5. Disconnect the condensate drain pipe and lead it into the passenger compartment.

6. Insert the hose of the spray cleaner into the condensate drain tube. Try to push it as deep as possible into the tube so that the cleaning foam does not come back.

7. Place a rag or plastic bag on the floor, wring your hand around the condensate drain tube to prevent foam from flowing back. Dispense the entire contents of the cylinder into the air conditioning system.

8. After emptying the cylinder, pull the hose out of the conditioner tube and suck it into an empty plastic bottle to drain the remaining liquefied foam.

Note:

It is quite possible that the foam can reach the vents and openings of the passenger compartment. This is normal, so not only the surface of the evaporator is cleaned, but the entire ventilation system of the passenger compartment.

9. Wait at least 10-15 minutes (follow the instructions on the bottle) for the foam to drain into the collection container, then the condensate drain tube can be inserted into place.

10. Start the car, turn on the air conditioner in the "LO" mode, set the fan to maximum speed, activate the air recirculation in the passenger compartment. Close all windows and doors and let the ventilation system run for another 15 minutes.

Note:

Sometimes, they also do forced drying of the system, but this is not necessary. It is better to leave the car overnight so that any residual cleaner in the ventilation system evaporates.

11. Replace the cabin ventilation filter and reassemble the remaining parts in reverse order.
