Opening the hood of the Opel Astra
1. Grasp the handle and open the front driver's door.
2. Inside the car, under the dashboard, on the left side there is a lever for opening the hood.
3. Pull the hood release lever towards you until you hear a click, which indicates that the hood is open. The hood of the Opel Astra G will rise slightly.
Note:
The absence of a click when the handle is pressed usually indicates that the hood lock drive cable has broken.
Very often, car owners put an electronic hood lock on the doors and hood of the Opel Astra G, which can only be opened using the alarm control key fob. With prolonged use, it is usually impossible to open the doors mechanically. Therefore, be sure to turn the regular lock cylinders with a key from time to time.
4. In the front of the car, under the decorative radiator grille, to the left of the center, there is a safety loop for unlocking.
5. To open the hood of the Opel Astra G, pull the safety release loop towards you and lift up the hood cover.
6. Under the hood, on the radiator grill, a stop is fixed in a special retainer.
7. Remove the bonnet support Opel Astra G from the holder and install it into the special hole on the bonnet cover, thereby fixing the bonnet in the raised state.
8. To close, lower the hood of the Opel Astra G to the lower position, leaving a gap of about 10 centimeters, then release it. Once the lock is clicked, the safety lock release loop must not protrude from the radiator grille. To check that the hood is securely locked in the closed position, pull it up at the front edge.
Warning:
In order to avoid damage to the paintwork, do not press on the loosely closed hood with your hands - it will be correct to reopen it and repeat the attempt to slam it and release it from a low height.
Never open the engine hood if you see steam coming out or coolant leaking from under it. To avoid the risk of burns, wait until steam or liquid stops escaping from under the hood.
Discover while driving that the hood is open, stop immediately and close it.
Note:
After installing the support strut, make sure the strut is firmly seated in the corresponding opening in the hood and there is no chance of it falling unexpectedly. If you doubt the reliability of a standard stop or it is simply absent, then pick up a strong bar suitable for the length and install it between the body and the hood lid.
When closing the bonnet, be sure to remove the support leg and lock it securely in the appropriate mount: closing the bonnet with the leg open may damage the bonnet.
