- Fan (VAG 3C1820015 M / E / P / AA)
Notes:
The increase in noise in the operation of the passenger compartment fan over the years is typical of the Passat B6 generation. Options for solving this problem are replacing or cleaning the fan. In addition, this article also demonstrates how to remove a recirculation damper actuator for repair or replacement, which can also start to make noise over time.
In Passat B6 vehicles, several drives are installed in the ventilation system (6 or 7, depending on the version). All of them are the same in terms of the drive design, but differ in the lever inserted from the outside and in the name of the part with the last letter.
In electronic programs, the recirculation flap and supply air flap drives are designated as V113 (3C0 907 511 B, or H) and V71 (3C0 907 511 D, or A). Physically, they are installed side by side and covered by a single casing. For post-styling models, these two nodes were combined under the code V425 (3C0 907 511 Q, or A). This is collectively referred to as the "Air Recirculation Actuator".
1. To gain access to the recirculation flap and its drive, as well as the heater fan, it is necessary to remove the glove box. Initially, remove the upper trim panel at the front passenger's feet by removing the two plastic bolts.
Note:
Before carrying out further work, you should disconnect the "minus" terminal from the battery.
2. Remove the three screws at the bottom under the glove compartment.
3. Open the glove compartment cover and remove the two screws on both sides.
4. And also two screws in the center of the glove compartment.
5. Detach the glove compartment by pulling it back and forth. Be careful, there are several wires connected to the box, do not cut them off. There is no need to disconnect them, just place it on the floor. The damper actuator is located at the top approximately in the center of the opening space.
6. Unscrew the two plastic nuts holding the electronic climate control unit.
7. Remove the ECU from the rails and move it to the side. Further, it is necessary either to unscrew the two latches that hold the damper drive motor, or unscrew the two screws that perform the same function (fastening is performed in different versions).

8. Remove the damper actuator by sliding it off the rails to the left (you can pry it off with a flat screwdriver).

9. Disconnect the wired terminal from the drive.
10. Replace the damper actuator with a new one, or clean and lubricate it as described in this article.

11. The heater fan housing is located in the depth of the passenger's footwell.
12. To remove it together with the fan, it is necessary to press and unfasten the plastic latch.
13. After releasing the clip, slightly pull down the plastic bar, turn the fan casing counterclockwise and remove it.
14. After removing the fan casing, disconnect the terminal with the power and control wires from it.
15. Replace with a new one, or disassemble and clean the heater fan as described in this article .

16. Assemble all parts in reverse order. When reassembling, note that the air pipes must fit into each other.
