The automaker recommends using original Toyota Genuine Motor Oil API (Toyota Engine Oil) synthetic oils and products from well-known global manufacturers such as Castrol Mobil and others for Toyota Corolla cars. But in recent years, branded car services have not been advised to pour European products. To figure out which of the tips is best to follow, you need to take a closer look at Japanese Toyota engine oils.

What are Toyota engine oils

Japanese OEM oil, produced under the Toyota brand, is mainly intended for the domestic market. The manufacturing company is Exxon Mobil, which is engaged in bottling under a contract with Toyota Auto Corporation (this brand of motor oils is known under the Castle brand).

All brands of oils are produced at the same factories, but different recipes are used: for the manufacture of the Toyota 0w20sm and 5w30sm brands, the Mobile recipe is used, and for the 5w20sl brand, Esso. During the development of these products, numerous research and development works have been carried out to ensure their perfect performance and take into account the characteristics of various engines. All these brands are of excellent quality and provide high energy-saving properties.

Features of Japanese motor oils

To decide which oil to pour into the engine of your car, you should familiarize yourself with the advantages of each of them. Engine oils manufactured under the Toyota brand perform four main tasks:

Lubrication of friction surfaces

The antifriction additives contained in original Toyota products form a very thin but sufficiently strong film on metal parts of various types of power plants. If these products are poured into a car engine, the result will be easy sliding of various parts, no overheating, scuffing, or jamming of engine elements.

Reliable seal

There are microscopic gaps on the cylinder walls and pistons. Toyota oil reliably seals them, thereby allowing you to maintain good compression and not lose engine power.

Cooling

This is another advantage, because of which many car owners prefer to pour Toyota products into the engine. It easily removes excess heat from very hot areas in the motor, and then dissipates it in the radiator.

Ensuring cleaning of engine parts

This manufacturer's engine oils contain detergent additives, which, in addition to cleaning engine parts, prevent the formation of various abrasive deposits on their surface due to high temperatures. This helps keep engine components and components optimally clean.

Characteristics of Toyota engine oil

All Japanese-made engine oils are distinguished by the following characteristics:

  • they are hydrocracking, they contain from 70 to 90% of minerals;

  • their quality meets a fairly high level;

  • they are designed specifically for the power plants of Toyota cars;

  • these products have good temperature performance and are suitable for operation in Russian cold conditions;

  • the friction modifier contained in them ensures quiet and smooth operation of the internal combustion engine;

  • properly selected Toyota engine oil can reduce (albeit slightly) fuel consumption;

  • in terms of prices, Japanese products outperform European counterparts.

Despite the good quality, the original Toyota products have one important drawback, namely, a low base number. The use of oils with a high alkalinity allows the engine to cope with low-quality fuel, but requires the use of more additives, and this, in turn, increases the ash content.

How often should oil be changed in Toyota Corolla cars?

The frequency of replacing engine oil from European manufacturers is once every 10 thousand kilometers. But car owners often reduce this period, preferring to change the engine oil at 5-7.5 thousand. This is primarily due to the low quality of motor oils sold in our country.

Original Japanese-made products are recommended to be changed every 5, and in winter 4-4.5 thousand kilometers.
