Malfunctions of the Hyundai Matrix engine management system

Main malfunctions and their causes

It is important to start checking the engine for faults with the main systems. If one of the following is present: (A) the engine does not start, (B) the engine idles erratically, or (C) the engine does not have sufficient throttle response, first check:

1. Serviceability of power supply circuits

– Rechargeable battery

– Fusible links

- Circuit breakers

2. Ground connections

3. Fuel supply

– Fuel lines

- Fuel filter

- Fuel pump

4. Ignition system

- Spark plug

– High voltage wires

– Ignition coil

5. System for reducing the toxicity of exhaust gases

– Forced crankcase ventilation system

– Vacuum leakage

6. Other

– Ignition advance angle

- Idling

Malfunctions of the engine management system (ECM) with multipoint injection are often associated with poor contact in the wire connections. Be sure to check all wire connections and make sure they are secure.
