Design features of the front axle Chevrolet Niva

The main parts of the front axle - differential, final drive gears and gearbox bearings - do not differ from the corresponding parts of the rear axle (see " Rear Axle "). The dimensions of the mating parts, control and adjustment operations also coincide.

The crankcase of the front axle gearbox is closed from below and from the front with covers.

The side gears are connected by splines to the housings of the internal hinges of the front wheel drives.

Each of the two housings of the internal hinges rests on a single-row ball bearing installed in the crankcase seat. The bearings are closed with covers fixed on three crankcase studs and sealed with cardboard gaskets.

The bearing caps of the housings of the internal hinges simultaneously serve as brackets for fastening the gearbox to the cross member of the front suspension. Silent blocks are pressed into the holes of the covers, through which the bolts of fastening to the lugs of the front suspension cross member pass.

The lower cover of the gearbox housing is attached to the anti-roll bar of the front suspension through metal clips and rubber cushions.

A breather is pressed into the upper right part of the gearbox housing.
