Checking and adjusting headlights on a Honda Civic

Note:

Violation of the headlight beam direction adjustment can lead to blinding of drivers of vehicles moving in a parallel course, and create an emergency situation on the road.

Checking the correct adjustment of the headlights should be carried out 1 time / 12 months, as well as after replacing the headlights and repairing the load-bearing elements of the front of the car.

Checking and adjusting the headlights on a Honda Civic is carried out on a car with a fully filled fuel tank, a set of tools and a spare wheel. 

The way to adjust the headlights on a Honda Civic using a marked screen is only suitable if your car has halogen bulbs. To adjust the headlights with gas discharge lamps, we recommend contacting a specialized service that has optical stands.

Checking headlights on a Honda Civic

1. Check and, if necessary, correct the air pressure in the tires.

2. Place the car perpendicular to a flat wall at a distance of 3 m.

3. Put a weight of 75 kg on the driver's seat.

4. Mark the screen on the wall as shown. The longitudinal plane of symmetry of the car must pass along line 0 on the screen.

5. Rock the car from the side so that the suspension springs self-adjust.

6. Measure the height of the headlight centers on the vehicle from the ground. This will be the distance on the screen:  h=700 mm.

7. On the instrument panel, set the headlight electrocorrector control to the position corresponding to the load of the car with 1 driver.

8. Turn on low beam.

9. If the location of the light spots does not match the picture, you need to adjust the headlights on the Honda Civic.

Adjusting the headlights on a Honda Civic

Note:

Adjust the direction of the light spot on each headlight one by one. Cover the second headlight with an opaque material during adjustment.

An example is shown on the left headlight.

1. Raise the hood cover and place it on the stop.

2. To adjust the left headlight on a Honda Civic, pull out the expansion tank by pulling it up.

3. Turn the adjusting screws with a Phillips screwdriver to adjust the horizontal position of the light spot on the screen.

4. Turn the adjusting screws with a Phillips screwdriver to adjust the vertical position of the light spot on the screen.

5. Adjust the right headlight in the same way.

6. The headlights on the Honda Civic are considered adjusted when the upper boundaries of the left parts of the light spots coincide with the line 4 , and the vertical lines 1 and 2 pass through the points E1 and E2 of the intersection of the horizontal and inclined sections of the light spots.
