Parts and consumables:
- Engine oil (VW 505 00 and 505 01) (G 052 167 M4)

- Engine oil (VW 506 01) (G 052 183 M2)

Notes:
The following describes which oil to fill in the Audi A6 engine, as well as how to check the Audi A6 oil level.
At the factory, the engine is filled with a special high-quality all-season engine oil with improved anti-friction properties, which can be driven all year round, except for areas with extremely cold climates. The following specifications (VW standard) must be marked on the oil container separately or together with other specifications. In addition, viscosity data can be found on the container, for example SAE 0W-30.
Oils for variable maintenance intervals (LongLife Service):
As part of Audi LongLife Service, a special multigrade oil with improved anti-friction properties has been developed for diesel engines in accordance with VW specification 506 01. It is a condition for longer service intervals and must therefore be used as part of the LongLife Service.
Oils for fixed maintenance intervals:
If your car is not covered by LongLife maintenance, you can use VW 505 01 multigrade oil with improved antifriction properties and VW 505 00 multigrade oil. service book).
The oil filler neck and oil dipstick are located in the right front of the engine compartment.

Location of the oil level indicator (dipstick) and oil filler neck.
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and open the hood as described in this article .
Note:
Checking and adding oil is shown with the engine cover removed. It is not necessary to remove the cover.
2. Stop the engine and remove the oil dipstick.

Note:
Before checking the oil level after a trip, stop the engine and wait 5-10 minutes until the oil drains into the crankcase.
3. Wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth and reinstall the dipstick until it stops.

4. Remove the dipstick again. The oil level must be between marks A and C.

Note:
Oil level in zone A:
- Oil must not be added.
Oil level in zone B:
- Oil can be topped up. In this case, it is permissible if after that the oil will be in zone A.
Oil in zone C:
- You have to add oil. It is enough that after that the oil rises to zone B.
Audi A6 oil consumption is normal. Depending on driving style and operating conditions, oil consumption can be up to 0.5 liters per 1000 km. In the first 5,000 kilometers, oil consumption may exceed this value. Therefore, we recommend that you check the engine oil level regularly (preferably at every refueling and before a long trip).
When the engine is under increased load, for example, when driving for a long time on the motorway in summer, when towing a trailer or crossing passes in mountainous areas, keep the oil level in zone A if possible, but not higher.
5. Unscrew the oil filler cap counterclockwise to add oil.

6. Add oil while monitoring its level on the dipstick.

Warning:
The oil level must never be higher than zone A. If this happens, the oil will be released into the atmosphere through the crankcase ventilation and exhaust system. In addition, the oil will burn in the catalytic converter, which may cause damage.
7. Tighten the engine oil filler cap tightly.

Warning:
When topping up, oil must not come into contact with a hot engine - fire hazard.
