Parts and consumables:

  • Engine oil (15W40, 10W40, 5W40, 0W40)
  • rags

Notes:

When measuring the oil level, the vehicle must be positioned on a flat, level surface. If the engine is at operating temperature, wait a few minutes for the oil to drain into the crankcase.

A complete engine oil change is carried out at the following frequency:

  • Gasoline engines up to 1999 (series 104) - every 15,000 km
  • Gasoline engines (series 111) - every 22,500 km
  • Diesel engines (series 601) - every 15,000 km
  • Diesel engines (series 611) - every 22,500 km

It should be borne in mind that in difficult operating conditions (load, high speeds, prolonged engine operation in the absence of movement in traffic jams), oil change intervals must be reduced or done at least once a year.

The approximate volume of oil in different series of Mercedes Vito engines:

  • 611.980 - 7.5 liters (tolerances 228.3, 228.5/51, 229.3/31, 229.5/51)
  • 601.970 - 8.5 liters (tolerances 228.3, 228.5/51, 229.3/31, 229.5/51)
  • 111.948 - 7.5 liters (tolerances 229.1, 229.3, 229.5)
  • 104.900 - 6.4 liters (tolerances 229.1, 229.3, 229.5)

1.  Open the hood of the Mercedes Vito as described in  this  article. The oil level indicator (dipstick) and the oil filler are located in the center of the engine compartment between the engine and the radiator.

2.  To determine the oil level in the crankcase, pull the dipstick out of the guide tube. Wipe the dipstick with a lint-free cloth or clean rag and insert it back into the tube until it stops.

3.  Pull out the Mercedes Vito engine dipstick and inspect the level indicator at its end. The boundary oil levels are indicated by tides on the dipstick.

Note:

If the oil level is below the "MIN" mark when the engine is warm, topping up is necessary. It is preferable that the level is approximately from the center of the indication zone to the upper mark "MAX", but not higher. Excess oil must be removed.

4.  To add oil, open the filler neck.

5. Add a small amount of oil to the system, wait a while and check the oil level with a dipstick. If there is not enough oil, repeat the procedure.

Note:

Use only Mercedes-recommended motor oils of the appropriate approvals and specifications. Do not mix oils from different manufacturers or different tolerances, this will degrade its performance and may damage engine parts.
