Checking the oil level with a Toyota Camry dipstick

When the engine is warmed up to operating temperature and turned off, check the oil level on the dipstick:

1. To obtain a correct reading, the vehicle must be on level ground. After turning off the engine, wait a few minutes for the oil to drain back into the engine sump.

2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it by holding the end of the dipstick with a rag.

3. Insert the dipstick again - insert all the way, otherwise the reading will be incorrect.

4. Pull out the dipstick and check the oil level by holding the end of the dipstick with a rag. If the oil is below or slightly above the low level, add the same type of oil as in the engine.

5. Remove the oil filler cap and add oil in small portions, checking the level with the dipstick. It is recommended to use a funnel to add oil.

Below for reference is the approximate volume of oil corresponding to the marks between the lower and upper levels on the dipstick.

When the level is normal, reinstall the oil filler cap and tighten by hand.

Oil identification marking.

To facilitate oil selection, some canisters bear one or both of the registered API marks.

The API classification symbol is located on the outside of the canister.

At the top of the label, using symbols, the quality of the oil is indicated according to the API classification (American Petroleum Institute-American Petroleum Institute), for example, SL. The center of the label indicates the SAE viscosity grade, such as SAE 10W-30. The "Energy-Conserving" label at the bottom indicates that the oil has properties that improve fuel efficiency.

The ILSAC (International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee) certification marking is indicated on the front of the canister.

To ensure proper engine lubrication, it is suggested to use Toyota Genuine Motor Oil (Toyota Genuine Engine Oil), which has been specifically tested and approved for all Toyota engines.
