Parts and consumables:

  • rags
  • Motor oil

1. Checking the oil level in the oil pan is carried out on an idle engine on a horizontal platform. If the engine was running before checking, then stop it. We wait at least three minutes (the oil should have time to drain into the engine oil pan) and take out the oil level indicator (dipstick).

We remove the dipstick to control the oil level in the crankcase of the Lada Kalina engine

2. We wipe the pointer with a clean rag and insert it into the fitting of the cylinder block until it stops. Again we take out the pointer and by the edge of the oil film on it we determine the oil level in the engine crankcase. The edge of the oil film must be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.

3. If necessary, add oil to the engine crankcase.

4.  We wait at least three minutes so that the topped-up portion of oil has time to drain into the sump, and check the level again. We install the level indicator in place When adding oil, do not allow the level to rise above the "MAX" mark. Otherwise, oil through the crankcase ventilation system will enter the combustion chambers of the cylinders, and the combustion products of the oil can damage the catalytic converter.
