Checking the beep
Thanks to the presence of a well-protected additional siren located behind the bumper, the absence of a sound signal due to a malfunction of the siren itself is practically impossible. Most often this is due to poor contact or its oxidation (arrow). If the siren began to wheeze, then sometimes its “voice” can be restored. To do this, remove the seal on the reverse side of the signal and turn the adjusting screw with the signal on until the sound is restored. Then secure the bolt with silicone rubber anti-twist.
The horn contact, located in the left combination switch, is permanently energized through the red wire in track 3 of the combination switch directly from the battery positive. Therefore, the horn should work even when the ignition is off when the contact of the horn switch is pressed. If the buzzer does not work, then you can check.
PROCEDURE
Disconnect wire ends.
Remove the siren.
Connect a wire to each connector and connect it, respectively, to the plus and minus of the battery.
If there is no sound, then the siren is faulty.
A wheezing or silent siren can sometimes be turned on by turning the adjustment screw on the back of the siren.
Clean the screw from the filling mastic.
After adjustment, coat the screw against moisture with body putty or silicone or rubber.
Recommendation: Additional horn sirens need a relay. Otherwise, the contacts of the standard audio signal will be overloaded and will not be able to sound at full volume. Buy a set of signals complete with a relay (you can also buy them from Renault). You will immediately receive an installation manual with wiring diagram.
Trouble-shooting
Horn Siren
Malfunction |
Her reason |
Trouble-shooting |
A. The horn does not sound. | 1. Faulty wiring to the siren (white wire). 2. Siren is defective. 3. Faulty wire in the siren contacts. |
Check the wire along the entire length, clean the contacts in the siren connectors. Check, replace if necessary. Check the entire length of the wire. |
B. The horn siren sounds constantly. |
1. The wire from the siren contact to the siren has a short to ground. 2. Internal short circuit in the siren. |
Disconnect the gray wire. If the siren is silent, check the entire length of the wire. Do not insert the wire while continuing the journey. Replace siren. When continuing the journey, disconnect the current-carrying white wire and, if necessary, insulate it. |
