Back in the fall, I began to notice that the handbrake began to hold weakly, held the car only at the very end of the handbrake lever stroke, but still did not hold it very tightly. First studied this procedure in the book on repair and maintenance.

Then proceeded to the procedure itself. Everything is pretty simple. Carefully lift the cover at the handbrake lever up. And we see on the right side of the lever the adjusting screw of the cable, on which the nut and locknut are screwed. Taking hold of this screw, I found a rather large backlash, it dangles freely, and this should not be so.
Now we take the necessary tool: an open-end wrench for 10, a head with a ratchet and an extension for 10, and a telescopic magnet.

Now, with an open-end wrench, we hold the lower nut from turning, and with the head we unscrew the upper lock nut. Attention! We do not unscrew the upper lock nut completely, leave it for about a couple of turns so that it does not fall down and would not have to be caught later. Next, we take the magnet, put it on the nut and carefully unscrew the nut, thereby it remains on the magnet and is not lost.
Having removed the lock nut, we proceed directly to tightening the handbrake, I tightened the nut by hand until the backlash got out. I didn’t pull it hard, because. this will be superfluous and will begin to pull the cable. Next, we wind the lock nut, again, first with a magnet for a couple of turns, and then holding the lower nut with a wrench, tighten the lock nut with the head. That's the whole process. Now we check. According to the book, the number of clicks on the handbrake should be 8-11 pieces. After tightening, I got 8 clicks, and the 8th with a slight interference. Now we start the engine and check. The wheels are dead, as they should be!
