Note:
The gearshift mechanism is installed in the passenger compartment, between the front seats.
Nissan is equipped with a cable-operated gear shift. This type of drive eliminates the transmission of vibration from the power unit to the gear lever.
If the Nissan X-Trail gear selection cable is misadjusted, there may not be enough lever travel to select reverse gear or 5th or 6th gear. Also, adjustment is necessary after removing the gearshift drive, replacing cables or other drive parts.
Before adjusting the gear selector cable on a Nissan X-Trail, you will first need to remove the gear selector trim.
Removing the trim selector manual transmission Nissan X-Trail
1. Move the box handle to 2nd gear.
2. Pull the handle up and towards you with sufficient force.
3. Remove the manual transmission handle from the lever.
4. Pry off the edge of the gear selector cover with a plastic spatula.
5. Pull out of the latches and remove the top console trim from the floor tunnel lining.
6. Disconnect from an overlay of the selector of a check point of a block of wires.
7. Remove the trim.
Nissan X-Trail Gear Select Cable Adjustment
1. Slide the latch 1 of the stopper, and move the tip stopper 2 in the direction of the cable.
2. Make sure the shift lever is in neutral.
3. By changing the transverse position of the manual transmission lever, align the notch of the protrusion on the lever with the hole in the base.
4. In this position, insert the rod into the hole and lock the gear selector drive.
5. To fix the tip on the Nissan X-Trail gear cable, move its stopper to its original position and block the movement of the stopper with a latch.
6. Remove the rod.
7. Switch successively all gears and check the operation of the drive. If necessary, re-adjust the Nissan X-Trail selector cable.
8. Establish an overlay of the selector and the manual transmission handle into place in an order, the return to removal.
Note:
The knob on the shift shaft cannot be reinstalled.
