Note:

The need to remove the thermostat on the Mitsubishi Lancer X may occur when the engine temperature is unstable: overheating or insufficient heating.

To check the thermostat on a car, start a cold engine and touch the upper (supply) radiator hose with your hand. It must be cold. After the coolant temperature reaches 82°C, the hose should begin to heat up rapidly, indicating the start of fluid circulation in the large circuit. If this does not happen, remove the thermostat and check its operation.

Removing and installing thermostat Mitsubishi Lancer X

1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

2. Drain the liquid from the engine cooling system (see "Changing the coolant", page 64).

3. Remove the air filter (see "Removing and installing the air filter", p. 115).

4. Squeeze the clamps of the block of the wiring harness of the coolant temperature sensor.

5. Disconnect the block from the sensor connector.

6. Loosen the radiator outlet hose clamp by squeezing its bent ears with pliers. Slide the clamp over the hose.

7. Disconnect the outlet hose from the Mitsubishi Lancer X thermostat cover fitting.

8. Disconnect the throttle body heating hose in the same way.

9. Disconnect the hose supplying coolant from the radiator.

10. Turn out 2 bolts of fastening of a cover of the thermostat on Mitsubishi Lancer X.

11. Remove the cover.

12. Remove the thermostat from the housing.

13. Remove the  o-ring from the Mitsubishi Lancer thermostat. Replace a severely compressed, hardened or torn ring.

14. To check, lower the thermostat into a container of water heated to 78-80°C. Gradually heating the water, monitor the temperature at which the thermostat valve opens.

Note:

The cooling system thermostat is considered serviceable under the following conditions:

- valve opening start temperature - (82*1.5) С;

- valve full opening temperature - 95 'C

- valve stroke (at full opening) - 8.5 mm.

15. Install the O-ring on the new thermostat and insert the thermostat into the housing.

Note:

Install the thermostat in the housing with the bypass hole facing up.

16. Install the thermostat cover, having cleaned the bonded surfaces of the body and cover from oxides and contaminants

17. Fill in the coolant and remove air plugs from the cooling system (see "Replacing the coolant", p. 64).
