Note:
Before removing the steering column cable on a Honda Civic, you will first need to remove the airbag and steering wheel.
Removing the driver's airbag Honda Civic
1. Raise the hood and secure it with the stop.
2. Use a 10 mm socket to disconnect the negative battery terminal.
3. Set the steering wheel to the position corresponding to the rectilinear movement of the car.
4. With a TORX T30 wrench, turn out on the left and right sides along the steering wheel pad fastening screw.
5. For easy access to the plug of the wiring block, turn the steering wheel to the right by 90 °.
6. Pry with a flat screwdriver and remove the plug of the wire block.
7. Wring out a clamp and separate a block of a sound signal (black).
8. Slide the latch and disconnect the driver's airbag block (yellow).
9. Remove the airbag module.
Removing the steering wheel Honda Civic
1. Use a 14 mm socket to loosen the steering wheel mounting bolt.
Note:
The steering wheel is very tight on the splines of the shaft, so do not completely unscrew the wheel bolt: with a sharp blow during removal, the steering wheel may come off the splines and cause injury.
2. Designate position of a nave of a steering wheel concerning a shaft, having turned out completely a bolt (a tag on a nave of a steering wheel is located under it). Put a mark on the end of the shaft, for example with a marker, and then again screw the bolt into the shaft by hand a few turns.
3. With sharp blows of the hands, knock the steering wheel off the splines of the shaft.
4. Finally turn out a bolt.
5. Remove the steering wheel.
Removing the steering column cable Honda Civic
1. Pull towards you, pull out of the latches and remove the left lower trim of the instrument panel.
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the 3 screws securing the steering column cover.
3. Remove the lower part of the casing.
4. Pull up and remove the top cover.
5. Disconnect the wiring harness from the Honda Civic stalk.
6. Pull towards you and remove the steering column cable.
7. If necessary, replace the Honda Civic stalk with a new one.
8. Install the stalk cable in place. Orient it so that the arrow on the ring matches the arrow on the steering column switch holder.
9. Establish a stalk casing, a wheel and an airbag in an order, the return to removal.
Warning:
When installing the module in the steering wheel of a car, stay outside the airbag deployment area.
10. After installing the airbag, check that the system is working properly by turning the ignition key to the ON (II) position. The SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds and then turn off.
Note:
The first time you turn on the ignition after installing the airbag module, be outside the vehicle and turn on the ignition with your hand under the steering column.
11. Check the operation of the horn.
