Note:
The rear brake caliper on a Honda Civic is removed for replacement or repair, as well as to gain access to other units.
The principle of removing the rear caliper is the same on both sides.
Removing the rear brake caliper Honda Civic
1. Move the automatic transmission selector to the "P" position.
2. Install wheel chocks under the front wheels.
3. Use a wheelbrace to loosen the rear wheel nuts.
4. Raise the rear of the vehicle and place it on secure stands.
5. Remove the rear wheel.
6. Using a 14 mm wrench, unscrew the bolt fitting, and disconnect the brake hose from the rear caliper Honda Civic.
Note:
To prevent leakage of brake fluid, plug the opening of the hose end, for example, with a rag.
7. Use a flathead screwdriver to release the latch and disconnect the cable from the
parking brake lever.
8. Remove the cable clamp with pliers.
9. Remove the parking brake cable from the holder.
10. With a 12 mm wrench, unscrew the upper and lower bolts of the Honda Civic brake caliper.
11. Lift a support up and remove from a brake disk.
12. Remove the outer and inner brake pads.
13. Pry with a screwdriver and remove the lower and upper fixing springs.
14. Using a 14 mm wrench, remove the 2 mounting bolts and remove the Honda Civic brake caliper bracket.
Note:
Some drivers only unscrew the caliper-to-knuckle bolts and remove the brake caliper assembly.
15. If necessary, replace the Honda Civic rear brake caliper with a new one.
16. Before installing the caliper-to-knuckle bolts, apply an anaerobic threadlocker to the threads.
17. If you are installing a previously removed caliper, sink the caliper piston by turning it with a large flat screwdriver.
18. There are 2 copper sealing washers on both sides of the brake hose tip. Replace these washers with new ones and reinstall the brake hose.
19. Install the rear caliper on the Honda Civic in the reverse order of removal.
20. Reinstall the rear wheel.
21. In the same way, replace the rear brake caliper on the other Honda Civic wheel.
22. In order to select the gaps in the brake mechanism, press the brake pedal to the stop several times.
23. Check up and if necessary restore level of a brake liquid
in a tank.
