Note:
If the sensor fails, the controller memorizes the fault code and uses a bypass engine control program (with a reduced ignition timing to prevent detonation). If the sensor fails, the engine light (check) lights up.
The knock sensor on the MR20DE Nissan X-Trail engine is installed on the front wall of the engine block.
On the QR25DE engine , the knock sensor is mounted on the rear wall of the cylinder block on the right side (above the oil cooler).
The principle of replacing the sensor is the same. An example is shown on the MR20DE engine.
Before replacing the knock sensor with a Nissan X-Trail, it is advisable to disconnect the wire from the “negative” battery terminal with a 10 mm wrench or socket.
Knock Sensor Replacement Nissan X-Trail
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the ignition.
2. Raise the hood cover and fix it with an emphasis.
3. Use a 10 mm socket to unscrew the 2 screws securing the decorative engine cover.
4. Remove from the front of the holders and remove the engine cover.
5. Disconnect the block of wires from the knock sensor Nissan X-Trail.
6. Turn out a bolt of fastening of the gauge to a head of the block of cylinders on 10 mm.
Note:
On the QR25DE engine, the sensor mounting bolt is turned out with a 12 mm head.
7. Remove the sensor.
8. If necessary, replace the Nissan X-Trail knock sensor with a working one.
9. Install the sensor and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the sensor bolt to 22.5 N•m.
