  • Fuel pump sealing ring (GM 96183170).

1. Install the car on a flat horizontal platform, open the hood and remove  the battery “-”  wire terminal.

2. Pull out the Chevrolet Lanos fuel pump fuse (30th relay), then connect the “-” terminal wire to the battery terminal. Start the engine and let it idle until it stops. Turn on the starter for 2–3 s. As a result, the pressure in the fuel system will be relieved. Disconnect the "-" wire terminal of the battery.

3.  In the passenger compartment, raise the rear seat cushion.

4.  Pry off the fuel module hatch cover with a flat screwdriver and remove the cover.

5.  Slide the blocking block of the harness, wires of the engine control system.

6 .  Press the tab at the back of the wiring harness block and remove the block.

7.  Squeeze the retainer on the drain pipe tip and remove the drain pipe tip from the fuel module cap fitting. Similarly, remove the tip of the discharge line pipe from the other fitting of the module cover.

8.  Using a flathead screwdriver, turn the retaining ring of the cover, fuel module counterclockwise until the grooves in the ring and the protrusions in the fuel tank flange match, then remove the ring.

9.  Remove the fuel module from the fuel tank opening.

Note:

The connection between the fuel module cover and the tank opening flange is sealed with a rubber ring. If the sealing ring of the module cover fails, replace it with a new one.

Useful advice:

After removing the fuel module, cover the hole in the fuel tank to keep dirt out.

10.  To replace the fuel level indicator sensor, press the wire harness block retainer and disconnect the block from the fuel module cover connector.

11. To remove the sensor, it is necessary to remove the tips of its wires from the block of the wiring harness. The fuel gauge has blue and white wires.

12.  Through two holes of the block, alternately press with an awl on the tabs of the latch, wire lugs and with pliers, remove the latch of the wire lugs from the block.

13.  With an awl, squeeze the tongue of the block that holds the tip of the desired wire, remove the tip of the wire from the block. Remove the tip of the other wire from the block in the same way.

Before removing the wires from the block, mark their location.

14.  In order to remove the Chevrolet Lanos fuel level sensor, pry off the sensor retainer with a flat screwdriver.

15.  Pry off the sensor with a screwdriver, slide it along the guides of the module housing and remove the fuel gauge sensor, leading its wires through the hole in the module housing.

16. Install the new fuel sensor in reverse order.

Note:

Before closing the hatch cover in the floor of the body under the rear seat, it is necessary to check the tightness of the fuel module connections. To do this, connect the wire terminal to the "negative" terminal of the battery and turn on the ignition.
