To replace the master cylinder of the clutch release drive in an Opel Astra car, you will need: a socket head and a “13” key, an “11” key for the pipeline nuts, a flat-blade screwdriver.
1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.
2. Remove the cap from the reservoir of the master brake cylinder...
3. ... and pump out, for example, with a large medical syringe, brake fluid from the reservoir section of the main brake cylinder that feeds the clutch release hydraulic drive.
Note
The reservoir, common to the master brake and clutch release cylinders, consists of three separate sections: two for separate hydraulic brake circuits and one for the hydraulic clutch release.
4. Remove the storage battery (see Removal and installation of the storage battery).
5. Remove the battery mounting shelf (see Removing and Installing the Battery Mounting Shelf).
6. Turn out the screw of fastening of a clamp of a broad tank to an arm...
7. ... remove the retainer ...
8. ... and take the tank aside without disconnecting the hoses from it and without draining the coolant.
Note
Removing the expansion tank in the Astra is necessary to gain access to the master cylinder of the clutch release drive.
9. Disconnect the clutch release master cylinder supply hose from the brake master cylinder reservoir pipe.
10. While holding the clutch release master cylinder damper from turning, unscrew the hydraulic drive tube mounting nut from it.
11. Remove the bottom left lower facing of the panel of devices (Removal and installation of a steering column see).
12. Disconnect the clutch release master cylinder pusher from the clutch pedal. To do this, remove the lock washer of the pusher fork pin ...
13. ...and remove your finger from the fork and pedal holes.
14. Turn out the top ...
15. ... and the lower nuts securing the master cylinder of the clutch release drive to the body panel ...
16. ... and remove the master cylinder.
17. Use a screwdriver to pry the retainer of the damper to the main cylinder ...
18. ... remove the retainer from the grooves of the master cylinder ...
19. ... and remove the damper from the master cylinder.
20. Disconnect the supply hose from the master cylinder.
21. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal, and remove air from the hydraulic drive (see Bleeding the clutch release hydraulic drive).
- 22. Check the operation of the drive and, if necessary, adjust the travel of the clutch pedal
