- Drain plug copper washer (if needed) (21513-23001)
- Oil filter (26300-35502)
- Engine oil (type SAE 5W-20)
Note:
An oil change is shown on the second generation Hyundai Santa Fe (2006-2012), equipped with the Theta II engine - in-line, four-cylinder. On engines of other models, this work is performed similarly. The only difference is in the location of the oil filler neck and the oil level indicator (dipstick) in the engine compartment.
On a Hyundai Santa Fe car, an oil change is performed in a pit or overpass, but in this article we will show an oil change without a pit, but with a jack.
Drain the oil after driving while the engine is still warm. If the engine is cold, start and warm it up to operating temperature.
You need to fill in the oil of the same brand as the oil that was in the engine. If you decide to change the brand of oil, flush the engine lubrication system with flushing oil or oil of the brand you want to fill in. To do this, after draining the old oil, fill in new oil to the lower mark on the dipstick. Start the engine and let it idle for ten minutes. Drain the oil and only then change the oil filter and fill in new oil.
1. Engage I gear (translate the automatic transmission selector to the “P” position) and install the chocks “boots” under the rear wheels.
2. Jack up the front of the vehicle on the passenger side and place the vehicle on a car stand.
3. Clean the drain plug on the oil pan.
4. Place an empty container under the crankcase drain plug.
5. Unscrew the drain hole and drain the oil into a container (drain the oil for 15-20 minutes).
Warning:
Be careful: the oil is hot. Wear gloves to avoid burning your hands.
Note:
The drain plug is sealed with a copper washer. If the washer is heavily compressed, be sure to replace the washer with a new one.
Drain plug with copper washer.
6. Loosen the engine oil fill plug to allow the oil to drain more quickly.
7. Unscrew the oil filter counterclockwise and remove the Santa Fe oil filter.
Note:
If it was not possible to unscrew the filter by hand, then unscrew it with a special puller.

8. Lubricate the filter O-ring with engine oil, screw the filter back in place by hand and tighten it 3/4 of a turn from the moment the ring and cylinder block flange come into contact.
9. Replace the engine oil drain plug.
10. Insert a funnel into the engine oil filler neck.
11. Fill engine oil into the engine (approximately 3.7 - 4 liters), controlling its level on the dipstick, described in detail in this article .
Note:
Remove the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth and reinsert it as far as it will go. Remove the dipstick again and look at the Santa Fe oil level . The oil level must be between the F(MAX) and L(MIN) marks .
Checking the oil level.
On a Hyundai Santa Fe car, the oil volume is approximately 4.5 liters. For diesel engine 2.2 l. the oil volume is approximately 5.9 liters.
12. After the oil level reaches the required, wrap the filler cap and remove any oil leaks.
Note:
Start the engine and let it idle for a couple of minutes (the emergency oil level indicator should go out 2-3 seconds after starting the engine). While the engine is running, check for oil leaks from under the oil filter and oil filler plug, add oil if necessary, tighten the drain plug and filter.
