Notes:
This article describes the oil change in the Audi A6 engine.
The oil change interval is every 15,000 km or once a year.
Add oil of the same brand, viscosity and quality class as the one used previously.
We perform work on a viewing ditch or overpass.
1. Remove engine protection as described in this article .
2. Loosen the engine oil drain plug.
3. Place an oil drain container under the drain hole and completely unscrew the plug with your hands.
Note:
The drain plug is sealed with a copper washer. If the washer is deformed, be sure to replace the washer with a new one.
4. Drain the oil for about 15-20 minutes.
5. Remove the engine cover as described in this article .
6. Clean the oil filter housing with a rag.
7. Unscrew the oil filter housing with a key and remove the housing.
8. Remove the old filter element from its seat.
Note:
Raise the filter and hold it over the seat so that some of the old oil drains out of it.

9. Screw the drain plug into the engine oil pan.
10. Pry with a screwdriver and remove the O-ring of the oil filter cover.
11. Put a new o-ring on the cover.
Note:
The o-ring comes with the oil filter.

12. Install a new oil filter.
13. Screw on the oil filter cap.
14. Remove the engine oil filler cap.
15. Insert a funnel and pour engine oil into the engine.
Note:
The volume of oil in the Audi A6 engine:
- 100 kW 4-cyl. the front-wheel drive diesel engine holds about 3.8 liters of oil.
- 103 kW 4-cyl. the front-wheel drive diesel engine holds about 3.8 liters of oil.
- 120 kW 6-cyl. the front-wheel drive diesel engine holds about 8.2 liters of oil.
- 132 kW 6-cyl. the front-wheel drive diesel engine holds about 8.2 liters of oil.
- 155 kW 6-cyl. a diesel engine with all-wheel drive holds about 8.2 liters of oil.
- 165 kW 6-cyl. a diesel engine with all-wheel drive holds about 8.2 liters of oil.
16. Check engine oil level as described in this article .
Note:
You need to check the level after 5 minutes so that it has time to drain into the crankcase.
17. Install all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
Note:
Start the engine and let it idle for a couple of minutes (the emergency oil level indicator should go out 2-3 seconds after starting the engine). While the engine is running, check for oil leaks from under the oil filter and oil filler plug, add oil if necessary, tighten the drain plug and filter.
