The timing belt is responsible for the high-quality operation of the gas distribution mechanism of the power unit. Its failure can lead to unscheduled repairs of the power unit.
timing belt.
The recommended timing for replacing the belt is 60,000 km. However, there is no exact figure, you just need to follow the recommendations of the car manufacturer without fail. Experts recommend doing a little lead. Replacing the timing belt Toyota after a run of 40-50 thousand / km. would be a better solution. Effective timing replacement on a Toyota car will be possible if car owners turn to specialists for help in a timely manner.
A small educational program
The driver needs to know when the timing belt needs to be replaced.
-
When starting the power unit, a knock appeared.
-
If it is felt that the engine is running intermittently, it is unstable.
It is these signs that indicate that it is time to visit the Service Station and not delay this issue in order to avoid more serious problems with the power unit.
Timing belt replacement should be carried out by experienced craftsmen using modern equipment. Belt replacement in progress :
-
Planned.
-
Unscheduled.
What will outweigh price or quality?
Thinking that saving money is a priority over quality work, a number of drivers are trying to replace the belt themselves. We do not argue - it is technically possible. But again, as we believe, quality should be in the forefront, and not the desire to save money.
Timing Corolla replacement - an independent attempt
You can replace the belt yourself, but for this you need to have certain knowledge, or at least familiarize yourself with the replacement procedure. To replace the belt, at least a certain set of tools and a jack will be required. So, the first thing to do when changing the belt for Toyota.
-
Remove the spark plug cover, then disconnect the high voltage wires. Going in order to remove the candles, then lifting the expansion tank, you need to carefully place it on the power unit. Using a simple tool that is familiar to every driver, we loosen the bolts of the front RIGHT wheel.
-
Following the instructions, you need to unscrew the timing belt cover to remove the accessory belt. Using a jack, raise the car from the RIGHT side and engage the gear. Then, turning the wheel manually, you need to look when the marks of the two shafts coincide - the camshaft and the crankshaft.
-
After completing this procedure, turn off the gear and remove the wheel. Then, unfastening the fasteners, you need to bend the lining that protects the wheel arch. Having unscrewed the bolts and removed the protective film of the timing belt, unscrew the upper bolt of the belt tensioner, and only loosen the lower one. To release the tensioner block from the pulley, it must be turned sideways ONLY counterclockwise. We have removed the upper bolt, and the lower one is loosened in this position, the tensioner will not come out. Now, having unscrewed the lower bolt, we can say that we will successfully remove the tensioner.
What's next?
Next comes the verification process , which takes some time, but it is here that composure and attentiveness will be required.
So, first of all, we check the accelerator rollers and tensioner. Turning the rollers, we listen to the noise of the bearings. Then we inspect the pulley: it should not be dirty, it should look smooth during visual inspection. Next, check the fastening of the accelerator roller. Having lubricated the removed pulley lever, put it in place and proceed to install the damper roller. Check the tensioner for possible oil leakage.
REMEMBER that it is IMPOSSIBLE to replace the tensioner with an oil leak!
Next, we go through the reverse process - this is the assembly. Same process in reverse. We will not go into detail about this process now. By briefly talking about the disassembly process, we tried to hint to you that this process is easy only on paper. In fact, the execution of such work must be trusted by the masters. After how successful independent work may seem to you, very serious troubles can arise.
Will we consider the losses of independent “repair” or give preference to quality?
Judge for yourself what unnecessary "independence" can lead to.
If, when installing the Corolla timing belt, the compatibility of the shafts is violated and or they are incorrectly positioned in relation to the crankshaft, at best, your car simply will not start. As a result of negligence or due to elementary ignorance of the installation process, the timing valves may be damaged, a bend will occur. When you try to start the engine, the unit may detonate and or triple, therefore, the engine power is reduced. And what awaits us as a result: the correct overheating of the internal combustion engine!
And where will we now turn again to the "garage" grief - the masters? Or to specialists for whom replacing a timing belt is a daily job? After all, you need an “examination” and a serious engine repair - prepare money. This is what the desire for imaginary savings can lead to.
