In accordance with the maintenance regulations, we replace the auxiliary drive belt every 60 thousand kilometers or after 4 years (whichever comes first), regardless of its condition. We perform work on a viewing ditch or overpass.

Recommendations:

- At each maintenance we recommend checking the condition of the belt.
- The belt must be replaced if cracks, ruptures and delamination of rubber from the fabric base are found on it.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, there are three options for auxiliary drive circuits.

Option 1

Scheme of the drive of auxiliary units of a car with power steering and air conditioning:
1 - auxiliary drive pulley;
2 - tension roller;
3 – a pulley of the pump of the hydraulic booster of a steering;
4 - generator pulley;
5 – an air conditioner compressor pulley;
6 - support roller;
7 - belt

The belt tension of a car with power steering and air conditioning is automatically adjusted by a tensioner.

To replace the belt:

1. Remove the right mudguard of the engine compartment

2. To loosen the belt tension, from the bottom of the car we put a spanner wrench or a “13” head on the tension roller mounting bolt and turn the roller bracket clockwise, overcoming the spring force of the tensioner, until the hole in the roller bracket and the recess in the device body are aligned ( for clarity shown on the removed engine).

3. We fix the roller bracket by inserting a “6” hexagon or a rod with a diameter of 6 mm into its hole and recess in the body of the tensioner.

4. Remove the accessory drive belt.

Note: Marking of the drive belt of auxiliary units of a car with power steering and air conditioning - 5K 1747 (five-stranded, 1747 mm long).

When replacing the belt, the idler and idler rollers must also be replaced.

To replace the support roller:

1. ... with a ring wrench or a “13” head, unscrew the bolt of its fastening ...

2. ... and remove the bolt with the roller protective cover.

3. Remove the support roller.

4. Similarly, remove the tension roller.

If it is necessary to replace the tensioner (for example, if the spring breaks):

1. ... with a “13” head, unscrew the two bolts securing the tensioner housing ...

2. and remove the tensioner assembly with the roller.

3. Install the removed parts in reverse order. Before mounting the belt, the idler pulley bracket must be turned clockwise and locked (see above).

4. When installing the belt, we lay it on the pulleys and wind it under the tension and support rollers in accordance with the drive diagram.

Automatic tensioner assembly :
1 - tension roller;
2 – roller bracket;
3 - body

Warning : The accessory drive, alternator, air conditioning compressor and power steering pump pulleys are six-stranded, while the drive belt is five-stranded.
We lay the belt on the pulleys so that it is shifted to their outer edge 1, and the inner stream of the pulleys 2 remains free.

After installing the belt, slightly turning the tension roller with a key, remove the latch. Then, with the “18” head with a ratchet, we turn the crankshaft clockwise three turns for the bolt securing its pulley in order to achieve the correct position of the belt.

Option 2

The manufacturer recommends checking the tension of the belt of auxiliary units of a car with power steering and without air conditioning using a special tool (tensometric tester) at a RENAULT dealership. Given that the belt may need to be changed on the way (for example, if it breaks), away from the service, we will show a method in which you can approximately estimate the belt tension.

Scheme of the drive of auxiliary units of a car with power steering, without air conditioning :
1 - auxiliary drive pulley;
2 - tension roller with bracket;
3 - adjusting bolt;
4 – a bolt of fastening of an arm of a tension roller;
5 - generator pulley;
6 – a pulley of the pump of the hydraulic booster of a steering;
7 - belt

Remove the right mudguard of the engine compartment. From the bottom of the car with your thumb, press the belt in the middle between the pulleys of the power steering pump and the crankshaft. With a pressing force of ~10 kgf, the belt deflection should be 6–8 mm. To tension the belt, loosen the two bolts 4 fastening the tension roller bracket and turn the adjusting bolt 3 clockwise. After tightening the belt, tighten the tension roller fastening bolts.

Warning: Do not overtighten the belt! Excessive belt tension leads to premature failure of both the belt itself and the alternator bearings.
To replace the belt, turn the adjusting bolt 3 counterclockwise by a few turns and loosen the bolts 4 securing the tension roller bracket. After loosening the belt tension, remove it from the pulleys.

Note: The marking of the drive belt for auxiliary units of a car with power steering and without air conditioning is 5K 1110 (five-stranded, 1110 mm long).

When replacing the belt, the tensioner must also be replaced.
Install the accessory drive belt in reverse order.

Warning: The pulleys for the accessory drive, alternator, air conditioning compressor and power steering pump are six-stranded, and the drive belt is five-stranded.

We lay the belt on the pulleys so that it is shifted to the inner edge 1 of the pulleys, and the outer stream of the pulleys 2 remains free.

We adjust the belt tension (see above). To accurately check the belt tension, you must contact the service.

Option 3

Scheme of the drive of auxiliary units of a car with power steering, without air conditioning :
1 - auxiliary drive pulley;
2 - tension roller with bracket;
3 - adjusting bolt;
4 – a bolt of fastening of an arm of a tension roller;
5 - generator pulley;
6 – a pulley of the pump of the hydraulic booster of a steering;
7 - belt

To check the tension of the generator drive belt on a car without power steering and without air conditioning, press the belt with your thumb in the middle between the generator pulleys and the crankshaft.

With a pressing force of ~10 kgf, the belt deflection should be 6–8 mm. To tension the belt, remove the right mudguard of the engine compartment.
We loosen the bolt 4 of the lower fastening of the generator and the bolt 2 of fastening the generator to the tension bar. Moving the generator away from the engine block with a mounting blade, we tighten the belt.
Tighten the alternator mounting bolts.

Warning: Do not overtighten the belt! Excessive belt tension leads to premature failure of both the belt itself and the alternator bearings.
When replacing the belt, loosen its tension (see above) and remove the belt from the crankshaft and generator pulleys. The marking of the alternator drive belt on a car without power steering and without air conditioning is 4RK 718 (four-strand, 718 mm long).
Install the alternator drive belt in reverse order and adjust its tension. To accurately check the belt tension, you must contact the service.
