Toyota Corolla crankshaft oil seal replacement

You will need: wrenches "for 14", "for 17", "for 19", socket heads "for 14", "for 17", "for 19", extension cord, wrench, flat blade screwdriver, hammer. To replace the front crankshaft oil seal, do the following.

1. Remove the timing chain cover (see "Removing and installing the timing chain cover").

NOTE

The procedure for replacing crankshaft oil seals is shown using the 1ZRRFE engine as an example. Crankshaft oil seals for 1NRFE and 4ZZZFE engines are replaced in the same way.

2. Using a screwdriver, remove the gland from the holder.

3. Lubricate the working edge of the new oil seal with engine oil, install it in the holder, orienting the working edge inward, and press the oil seal into the holder until it stops using a mandrel. As a mandrel, you can use a suitable size head from the tool kit or an old oil seal.

4. Establish all removed details and knots in an order, the return to removal. To replace the crankshaft rear oil seal, perform the following steps.

1. Remove a transmission (see "Removal and installation of mechanical and robotic transmissions").

2. Remove the clutch (see "Removing and installing the clutch").

3. Remove the flywheel (see "Removing and installing the flywheel").

4. Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal.

5. Lubricate the working lip of the new oil seal with engine oil ...

6. ... install it in the seat of the cylinder block, orienting the working edge inside the engine, and carefully fill the working edge on the crankshaft journal.

7. Press the stuffing box into the socket until it stops using a mandrel of a suitable diameter.

USEFUL ADVICE

You can use an old oil seal as a mandrel.

8. Install the removed units in the reverse order of removal.

NOTES

The tightening torque of the flywheel mounting bolts is 65 N m (6.5 kgf m). When installing the flywheel, lubricate the threaded part of the flywheel mounting bolts with Loctite thread locking compound or equivalent.
