Replacing spark plugs Mazda 6 (GJ). Work order:
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and open the hood.
2. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.
3. Carefully remove the decorative plastic engine cover and set it aside.
This will open access to the ignition coils.
Useful advice:
If possible, clean the top of the engine. This will reduce the chance of dirt getting into the spark plugs.
4. Press an electric socket and disconnect block from the ignition coil.
If it doesn't fit, slip a flat head screwdriver and pull the contact towards you.
Note:
To reduce the risk of contamination entering the cylinder head, it is recommended to check or replace Mazda 6 spark plugs one by one.
5. Using an 8 mm socket, unscrew the nut securing the ignition coil to the top of the engine. Set it aside.
6. Rotate the ignition coil back and forth several times and check that the rubber boot does not stick to the top of the old spark plug.
7. Pull the ignition coil out of the spark plug well and set it aside in a safe place.

8. Using a 14 mm spark plug wrench, unscrew the old spark plug by turning it counterclockwise.
9. Inspect both ends of the old spark plug. If the electrode end of an old spark plug looks ash white, the spark plugs may have been exposed to high temperatures such as engine overheating, or they are out of temperature range for your driving conditions.
Note:
If the old spark plugs are dark gray or covered in black soot, the engine may be burning oil and should be checked by a professional mechanic.
10. Replace the Mazda 6 spark plug with a new one.
11. Insert a new Mazda 6 spark plug into the head and lower it into the spark plug well. Screw in the new spark plug clockwise until it touches the top of the cylinder head.
Note:
Try to avoid over-tightening spark plugs to prevent cracking of the ceramic part of the spark plug or damage to the threads.
12. In the same way, replace 3 more Mazda 6 spark plugs, and assemble everything in the reverse order.
