Replacing the fuel filter on a VW Polo

Tool:

• Phillips screwdriver medium;
• Pliers.

Parts and consumables:

• Fuel pump;
• Fuel tank.

Note:

In accordance with the maintenance regulations for the Volkswagen Polo car, the fuel filter must be replaced every 30 thousand kilometers. Our step-by-step instructions with a photo will help the car owner do it on their own.

The VW Polo fuel filter has a built-in fuel pressure regulator, so you only need to install a filter of a similar design.

We perform work on a viewing ditch or overpass.

1.  The fuel in the system is under pressure, therefore, before servicing the system, it is necessary to relieve fuel pressure using power. To do this, by pulling, remove the cover of the mounting block in the cabin.

2.  With the ignition off, remove the BS32 fuel pump fuse.

3.  Start the engine and let it idle until it stops due to running out of fuel. Then we turn on the starter for 2–3 s. After that, the pressure in the power supply system will be relieved. After the pressure in the fuel system has been relieved, we proceed to the replacement, the fuel filter is installed on the right side of the fuel tank.

4.  Pressing a screwdriver on the latch of the fuel drain pipe from the fuel filter, disconnect the pipe from the fuel filter fitting.

5.  Similarly, disconnect the inlet and outlet pipes from the fuel filter fittings.

6.  Remove the parking brake cable from the holder.

7.  Loosen the fuel filter clamp with a Phillips screwdriver.

8.  Remove the fuel filter from the clamp, while removing the filter pin from the holder on the clamp.

9.  Since fuel remains in the filter, we drain it into a previously prepared container.

10.  Install the filter in reverse order. In this case, the arrow on the filter housing must be directed in the direction of fuel flow (towards the front of the car). The appearance of the fuel filter with arrows indicating the direction of fuel supply applied to it.

11.  We put the tips of the fuel pipes on the filter fittings until the latches snap into place.

12.  We put the tip of the tube with a blue retainer (fuel drain tube from the fuel filter) on the middle fitting of the fuel filter.

13.  Insert the pin into the holder on the clamp. After installing the fuel pump fuse, turn on the ignition and check the tightness of the connections.
