Depending on the configuration, a manually controlled heating (air conditioning) and ventilation system control unit or an automatic microclimate control system (climate control) is installed on the vehicle.
Outside air can enter the passenger compartment through the door windows when the windows are lowered and the air intake located in front of the windshield.
Air from the air intake can enter the vehicle interior through the blower nozzles (windscreen, side, center and bottom nozzles).

6 - Temperature regulator.
7 - Defrosting glass, dehumidification, air recirculation.
The thermotronic system (climate control) automatically regulates the interior temperature, the amount of air supplied and the air distribution in an automatic mode.
The amount of air supplied through the nozzles to the head zones and the rear part of the passenger compartment can only be adjusted manually.
The thermotronic system (climate control) heats or cools the vehicle interior, depending on:
1 - Selected temperature.
2 - Solar radiation.
3 - Outside air temperatures.
The car is equipped with an activated carbon filter that traps dust particles, pollen and odors from the outside air entering the car. The filter change interval depends on environmental influences such as strong polluted air. Changing the cabin filter is described in this article .

Note:
Condensation can accumulate under the vehicle.
If the interior of the car is very hot in the sun, then ventilate the car before driving.
Keep the air inlet slots between the bonnet and windscreen clear of snow.
Do not place any objects on the panel of the driver's station. Otherwise, they could cover the sun sensor on the driver's side.
Set the sliding handles of the middle nozzles to the middle position to create ventilation air.
Dehumidification (Reheat):
Economy mode does not cool or dry the air. Select this mode only for a short time. Otherwise, the glass may fog up.
Shutdown:
To switch on, press the AC off button, the indication will appear on the display.

Turning on:
To switch on, press the AC off button, the indication disappears from the display.
Residual engine heat:
After a long drive, the Mercedes Vito 639 engine emits residual heat. You can use this residual heat from the engine in your car.
Note:
The heating time depends on the coolant temperature and the selected interior temperature.
Regardless of the position of the air supply regulator, the fan runs at the lowest stage.
To switch on the residual heat of the engine:
1. Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 0 or remove it.
Mercedes Vito key in ignition lock in zero position
2. Adjust according to your needs:
- Temperature.
- Air distribution.
- Air nozzles.
3. Press the REST button and the indication will light up on the display.
To turn off the residual heat of the engine:
1. Press the REST button and the indicator lamp in the button will go out.
Note:
Residual heat utilization from the engine is automatically disabled:
- In about 30 minutes.
- If you turn the key to position 1 or 2.
- If the battery voltage drops.
Basic climate control settings:

Auto mode
Activating automatic mode:
1. Press the AUTO button and the indication appears on the display. The climate control is automatically controlled.

Switch off automatic mode:
1. Press the AUTO button and the indication disappears from the display. The air conditioning system keeps the current settings.
Temperature control:
Set the temperature with the temperature controller. Change the temperature only in small steps.

Increase:
Press the temperature knob at the top. The display shows the selected temperature. If you select a temperature higher than 28ºC, the display will show “ Hi”. If the thermotronic is operating at maximum cooling power, the display shows MAX COOL.

Temperature and temperature adjustment buttons (red - warm, blue - cold)
Decrease:
Press the temperature knob at the bottom. The display shows the selected temperature. If you select a temperature higher than 16ºC, the display will show “Lo”.
Adjusting the amount of air supplied:
If necessary, you can manually adjust the amount of air supplied in seven steps. The display shows the set air volume by means of a bar graph.

Note:
If you turned on the automatic mode of operation of the thermotronic system and press the buttons for the amount of air, then:
- Indication - will disappear from the display.
- Air distribution remains in automatic mode.
Increasing air supply:
Press the top fan button. The fan runs at the selected operating mode step. The display shows the selected air capacity by means of a bar graph.

Reducing air supply:
Press the bottom fan button. The fan runs at the selected operating mode step. The display shows the selected air capacity by means of a bar graph.
Automatic air distribution mode:
Press the AUTO button. AUTO appears on the display. The climate control is automatically controlled.
Air distribution adjustment:
Distribute the supplied air using the air distribution regulator. The display shows the set air distribution by means of arrows.
Note:
If you have switched on the automatic mode of operation of the Thermotronic system (climate control) and turn the wheel of the air distribution regulator, then:
- Indication - disappears from the display.
- The amount of air supplied remains in automatic mode.
The symbols on the switch mean the following:
Left character:
- Directs air to the ventilation nozzles.
Upper symbol:
- Directs air to the windshield.
- Directs air to the ventilation nozzles.
Right symbol:
- Directs air to the windshield.
- Directs air to the ventilation nozzles.
- Conducts air into the legroom.
Lower symbol:

Manual air distribution mode:
Turn the air distribution control wheel to the desired position.
Automatic air distribution mode:
Press the AUTO button. AUTO appears in the display. The air conditioning system automatically regulates the amount of air supplied through the middle and side nozzles. The amount of air supplied depends on the air distribution.
You can additionally adjust the amount of air supplied using the adjusting wheel on the nozzles.
Recirculated air mode:
If unpleasant odors and dust enter the passenger compartment from outside, you can temporarily turn off the fresh air supply. In this case, fresh air is no longer supplied, and instead air is recirculated in the passenger compartment.
A WARNING:
Only operate recirculated air for a short time. Otherwise, the air quality may deteriorate and the windows may fog up.
The fogging of the windows leads to reduced visibility, which increases the risk of an accident. Poor visibility can result in danger to you and other road users.
Turn off recirculated air as soon as possible.
The button for the air recirculation mode is located in the thermotronic control panel (climate control).
Turning on:
Press the recirculation button and the indication appears on the display. Or press the recirculation air button and hold it down for more than 2 seconds:
