Note:
This article describes how to adjust the handbrake on a Mercedes Vito.
If you need to replace the parking brake pads, then replacing the parking brake pads with a Mercedes Vito is described in this article .
Parking brake actuator adjustment Mercedes-Benz Vito W639
1. Brake the car with the parking brake and install chocks (“shoes”) under the front wheels.
2. Loosen the wheel nuts, raise the rear of the car with a jack, place the car on secure stands, and remove the wheel.
A WARNING:
Loosen and tighten the wheel nuts only when the vehicle is on the ground.
3. Remove the caliper and pads without disconnecting the brake hose from the caliper. Caliper removal and replacement of Mercedes Vito brake pads are described in this article .
Helpful advice:
The caliper can be tied to the spring with a wire.
4. Using the "19" head, unscrew the two bolts of the caliper bracket (bracket), and remove the bracket without disconnecting the brake hose from the caliper. The removal procedure is described in this article .
5. Turn the brake disc so that you can access (with a thin screwdriver) the parking brake pad adjustment ratchet.
1 - Approximate location of the ratchet.
2 - One of the holes for adjusting the ratchet.
The photo shows the same ratchet
6. Use a screwdriver to turn the ratchet until the wheel is locked. Then turn the ratchet 6 teeth in the opposite direction.
Ratchet rotation process
For clarity, the rotation of the ratchet is shown on the removed brake disc.
Note:
If you cannot determine in which direction to rotate the ratchet, then determine it empirically: if the ratchet rotated in the wrong direction, the parking brake pads will block the rotation of the brake disc (parking brake drum). In this case, repeat the operation, turning the ratchet in the opposite direction.
7. Install all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
