How to remove, check and install the canister purge valve in a Volkswagen Polo

1.  Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

2.  Remove the air filter housing.

3.  Squeeze the retainer and disconnect the wiring harness block from the valve.

4.  Remove the hoses going to the canister valve from the brackets on the inlet pipe.

5.  Remove the valve by removing both hoses from its fittings.

6.  Slide a compressed rubber bulb onto the valve fitting. Since the valve is normally closed, the vacuum created must be maintained in the bulb. Then apply a voltage of 12 V to the valve contacts, the valve will open and the bulb will fill with air. Otherwise, replace the valve with a new one.

7.  Install the canister purge valve in the reverse order of removal.

6 - downpipe with bellows combined with an additional muffler;

9 - diagnostic oxygen concentration sensor.
