Ground clearance, or clearance , is the distance from a flat supporting surface on which the car stands to its lowest point in the central part, indicated in the photo below.

The air suspension allows you to adjust the height of the clearance depending on the traffic situation and work well both on a flat road and on dirt roads.

Do not get carried away by increasing the clearance on the Nissan X-Trail. As the ride height increases, the center of gravity rises. At the same time, stability, controllability deteriorate, shock absorbers break, but the car does not become an all-terrain vehicle. At high speeds, on the track and in corners, there is a serious buildup and additional body roll.

The easiest and safest way to increase the clearance is to install wheels with "high" tires. Changing wheels makes it easy to increase ground clearance by another centimeter. But do not forget that a serious change in clearance can damage the CV joints.
