Note:
Removal and installation of spark plugs is shown on the example of the CR14DE Nissan Note engine. The difference between removing and installing spark plugs on the HR16DE engine is the removal of the intake pipe. The subsequent operations for removing the spark plugs directly are similar to those below.
To gain access to the Nissan Note spark plugs, you will first need to remove the air manifold and ignition coils.
Removing ignition coils Nissan Note
1. Open the hood and place it on the stop.
2. Using a 10 mm socket, unscrew the wire from the "negative" terminal of the battery.
3. Pry with a screwdriver and remove the 2 retainers securing the air intake to the front cross member of the radiator frame.
4. Rotate the air intake duct 90º up and towards you.
5. Pull the air intake out of the air filter housing.
6. Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors that go to the air manifold.
7. Disconnect the 2 pipes that fit the air duct.
8. With a 10 mm head, remove the 6 bolts securing the air manifold housing (marked in red).
9. Remove the air manifold housing. This will open access to the ignition coils.
10. Cover the inlets with a clean rag.
11. To avoid getting dirt and debris into the engine cylinders when turning out the candles, blow out the candle wells with compressed air.
12. Use a flat screwdriver to press the retainer and disconnect the wiring harness block from the ignition coil.
13. Use a 10 mm socket to loosen the coil mounting bolt and remove the bolt.
14. Remove the Nissan Note coil from the spark plug.
15. Similarly, remove the ignition coils of the other 3 cylinders.
Maintenance and replacement of spark plugs Nissan Note
1. Use a 16 mm spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug.
2. Remove the Nissan Note spark plug from the spark plug well.
Note:
The HR16DE engine needs a special 14mm wrench to remove the spark plugs.
3. Inspect the candle and evaluate its condition by appearance.
4. With a special round or flat probe, check the gap between the spark plug electrodes. It should be no more than 1.1 mm.
5. If the gap differs from the specified value, adjust it by bending the side electrode.
Note:
Adjust the gap only by bending the side electrode. Any bending of the center electrode will break the spark plug insulator.
6. In a similar way, remove and check the remaining spark plugs.
7. If necessary, replace the Nissan Note spark plugs with new ones.
8. Install the spark plugs in the spark plug wells. Screw them first by hand (with a wrench without a wrench), and then tighten with a wrench to the appropriate torque: for the HR16DE engine - 19.6 N•m, for the CR14DE engine - 19.6-29.4 N•m.
9. Install the ignition coils in the reverse order of removal. Bolts of fastening of coils to a cover of a head of the block of cylinders tighten the corresponding moment: for the HR16DE engine - 7 N • m, for the CR14DE engine - 3,8-4,4 N • m.
10. Establish an air collector all details in an order, the return to removal.
