The location of the controls for the Opel Astra is shown in Fig. 1. For ease of use, handles, buttons and instrumentation located on the instrument panel and other additional control panels are marked with functional symbols.
Figure: 1. Instrument panel and controls
The instrument panel contains the following controls and instrumentation:
1 - control unit for outdoor lighting, the brightness of the instrument cluster illumination, rear fog lamps and an electric headlight corrector.
By turning the handle of the outdoor light switch, turn on the side light, low beam or high beam.
By pressing the lower left button of the unit, turn on the light in the rear fog lamps. Pressing the button again deactivates the fog lights. Similarly, the fog lights (if installed) are turned on and off by pressing the upper left button of the unit (in the photo, a plug is installed instead of the button).
By pressing the lower right handle of the block, unlock the regulator of the electrocorrector of headlights (the handle moves out of the block).
By turning the knob of the regulator, depending on the load of the car, the angle of inclination of the headlight beam is changed in such a way as to exclude the dazzle of drivers of oncoming traffic. Combining the mark on the regulator handle and the numbers on the scale, select the appropriate headlight position adjustment for the following vehicle loading options:
0 - one driver or driver and a passenger in the front seat;
1 - all seats are occupied;
2 - all seats are occupied and cargo in the trunk;
3 - one driver and cargo in the trunk.
At the end of the adjustment, lock the regulator by sinking its handle into the block.
By pressing the upper right handle of the block, the dimmer of the instrument cluster and information display illumination is unlocked (the handle is pulled out of the block).
To increase the brightness of the backlight, turn the knob in the direction of the "+" sign and hold it in this position until the required brightness is reached (the brightness of the backlight changes automatically). Decrease the backlight brightness in the same way by turning the control knob towards the “-” sign. At the end of the adjustment, lock the regulator by sinking its handle into the block.
2 and 12 - side nozzles of the ventilation and interior heating system.
By turning the knob A , the intensity of the air flow is changed, and in the extreme lower position of the knob the air flow is maximum, and in the extreme upper position it is blocked (the symbol "O" is visible on the handle). Use handle B to adjust the direction of the air flow.
3 and 13 - nozzles for blowing glass doors.
4 - the lever of the switch of outdoor lighting and direction indicators. The switch lever can be in the following positions:
I - indicators of the right turn are included (fixed position);
II - indicators of the left turn are included (fixed position);
When the lever is moved to position " I " or " II " in the instrument cluster, the control lamp 10 or 13 lights up with a blinking light (Fig. 2). When the steering wheel is returned to the straight-ahead position, the lever is automatically returned to its original position. When changing lanes, to turn on the direction indicator, it is enough to press the lever in the direction of position " I " or " II " only until the moment of tangible resistance, without fixing the lever, and release. In this case, the direction indicators will flash three times.
Figure: 2. Instrument cluster
To switch between high and low beam headlights, move the switch lever towards the steering wheel two positions and release.
Note:
When the main beam is turned on, the control lamp 22 lights up in the instrument cluster (Fig. 2).
To signal the high beam headlights, move the switch lever one position to the steering wheel (the handle of the switch, outdoor lighting in control unit 1 (see Fig. 1) of the outdoor lighting must be in the "Low / high beam on" position) and release.
Note:
When the main beam is switched on, the control lamp 22 also lights up in the instrument cluster (see Fig. 2).
On request, the function "road lighting to the house" can be introduced. If, with the ignition off and the driver's door open, move the switch lever one position to the steering wheel and then release it, the headlights off delay function is activated - the dipped headlights and the reversing lights turn on, which turns off only 30 minutes after the last door was closed ... To turn off the headlights, move the switch lever one position to the steering wheel and release it again.
Note:
If the ignition switch (lock) is in the " O " or " I " position , when the outside lighting is on, at the moment the driver's door is opened, a buzzer will sound reminding you to turn off the lighting.
A parking light function can be added on request. When the car is parked, you can turn on the front and rear parking lights on one side of the car, for which, with the ignition off and the handle of the outdoor light switch in the control unit 1 (see Fig. 1) of the outdoor lighting in position " 0 ", turn the lever of the outdoor light and indicator switch turning in the right direction. In this case, the buzzer will turn on and simultaneously the control lamps 10 and 13 (see Fig. 2) in the instrument cluster will light up.
5 - instrument cluster.
6 - steering wheel.
Note:
On request, the steering wheel spokes can be fitted with entertainment and audio remote controls.
7 - the lever of the switch for the windscreen wiper and washer of the windshield and the window of the tailgate (on cars with station wagons and hatchbacks).
Turns on the electrical circuits when the ignition is on and can be installed in the following positions:
1 - the wiper is off;
2 - the wiper blades will make one cycle;
3 - intermittent wiper operation is on. To adjust the delay time between cycles (if this option is installed) push the lever down from position 1, wait for the desired amount of time and set the lever to position 3;
4 - the first (low) wiper speed is on;
5 _ the second (high) wiper speed is on.
Note:
Depending on the equipment, instead of the intermittent wiper, an automatic wiper can be installed. In this case, setting the selector lever to position 3 activates automatic mode.
Moving the lever one position towards the steering wheel will activate the windscreen and headlamp wipers and washers (if installed).
When you move the lever from the steering wheel one position, the wiper and washer of the tailgate will turn on. Holding the lever in this position will turn on the tailgate glass washer for the entire time the lever is held.
Note:
The tailgate window wiper will turn on automatically (depending on equipment) when reverse gear is engaged, if the wiper lever is in position "2", "3" or "4".
8 - driver's seat heating switch.
Depending on the required degree of seat heating, press the switch button one or more times. Each time the button is pressed, the heating level increases and another indicator lights up in the button. To turn off the heating, press the button several times until all indicators go out.
Notes:
A similar switch is installed in the dashboard trim on the right symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the Opel Astra. It is used to switch on the front passenger seat heating and functions in the same way as the driver's seat heating switch. On request, switches for the tire pressure drop monitoring system, parking sensors, sport mode, central locking can be installed in common blocks with switches for heating the driver's and front passenger's seats.
9 - central information display.
The display shows time, date and outside temperature. Depending on the vehicle configuration, the display serves to receive information from the on-board computer (if installed), for visual control when controlling the audio system and the heating (air conditioning) of the passenger compartment, as well as the entertainment system (if the listed systems are installed on the vehicle).
