Skoda Octavia cars are equipped with 5- or 6-speed manual gearboxes, a 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed DSG robotic gearbox.
Manual transmission Skoda
NOTE
The principles of operation of 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions are similar.
The mechanical gearbox (Fig. 739) is made according to a two-shaft scheme with five synchronized forward gears and one non-synchronized reverse gear. The gearbox and final drive with differential have a common crankcase, in addition, the gearbox has an additional intermediate crankcase and cover. The input shaft is pressed into the gear block and connected to it with splines.

Rice. 739. Five-speed manual transmission:

1 - gearbox housing; 2 - gear V transmission; 3 - gear IV gear; 4 - third gear gear; 5 - gear 2nd gear; 6 - reverse gear; 7 - gear wheel of the 1st gear; 8 - primary (drive) shaft; 9 - clutch housing; 10 - inner CV joint of the right front wheel drive; 11 - differential housing; 12 - driven gear of the main gear; 13 - inner CV joint of the left front wheel drive; 14 - secondary (driven) shaft.

On the secondary shaft of the Skoda Octavia gearbox are the main gear spur gear, driven gears and gear synchronizers. Pairs of forward gears of the gearbox are in constant engagement. The gears of the IV gear in the neutral position rotate freely on the secondary shaft.
The forward gears are switched on by axial movement of the corresponding synchronizer clutches mounted on the secondary shaft. The reverse gear is engaged by moving the reverse intermediate gear along its axis.
The gearshift mechanism is located in a cover mounted on top of the gearbox housing.
The Skoda Octavia manual transmission control drive consists of a gearshift lever 2 (Fig. 740) with a ball bearing mounted on the base of the body, gear selection and shift cables 3 and 4 (Bowden cable), as well as a mechanism located on the gearbox housing gears. Select 3 and 4 shift cables are structurally different from each other and are not interchangeable. The gears in the gearbox are switched by lever 13 (Fig. 741).
The main gear is made in the form of a pair of cylindrical gears, selected according to noise. Torque is transmitted from the driven gear of the final drive to the differential and then to the front wheel drives.
The differential is conical, two-satellite. The tightness of the connection of the internal hinges of the front wheel drives with the differential gears is ensured by oil seals.

Rice. 740. Drive control manual gearbox Skoda Octavia:
1 - preselector guide lever; 2 - gear lever; 3 - cable drive for the preselective gear change control device; 4 - cable gear shift drive; 5 - heat shield.

Rice. 741. Skoda Octavia manual transmission shift lever:
1, 25, 28 - retaining rings; 2, 4 - bushings; 3, 18 - compression springs; 5 - bolt; 6 - cover; 7 - damper; 8 - damper gasket; 9 - bearing shell; 10 - gear lever guide; 11 - shock-absorbing washer; 12 - seal between gear shift housing and body; 13 - gearshift control lever; 14 - housing of the gear shift mechanism; 15, 27 - bearing bushings; 16 - neck of the main bearing; 17 - guide sleeve; 19 - preselector lever; 20 - screw securing the preselector lever; 21 - seal; 22 - gasket; 23 - cable drive for the preselective gear change control device; 24 - cable gearshift drive; 26 - nut for fastening the gear shift housing.
