Exhaust system:
1 - exhaust manifold;
2 - pressure plate for fastening the intake pipe to the exhaust manifold;
3 - catalytic converter of exhaust gases;
4 – additional muffler;
5 – main muffler;
6 - system suspension bracket
The exhaust system consists of an exhaust manifold, a front pipe with a catalytic converter of exhaust gases, additional and main mufflers and pipes connecting them.
All elements of the system, except for the exhaust manifold, are welded together. The exhaust manifold flange is connected by a ball joint to the exhaust pipe flange.
The location of the exhaust system on the car (shown on the car Sandero):
1 – a rubber pillow of a suspension bracket of system of release;
2 - heat shield
The exhaust system is suspended from the body on three rubber pads. Heat shields are installed above the converter, additional and main mufflers and near the fuel tank.
The exhaust manifold is covered with a heat shield ...
A metal gasket is installed between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head.
To seal the hinged connection of the exhaust manifold and the downpipe, a ring made of composite material with a spherical outer surface, put on the flange of the exhaust manifold, is used, and an inner spherical surface is made in the downpipe flange.
The flange connection is pulled together by a pressure plate through two conical springs put on the exhaust manifold studs. The springs are preloaded with nuts screwed onto the studs.
A control oxygen concentration sensor is installed in the pipe after the exhaust manifold.
The diagnostic oxygen sensor is located behind the catalytic converter.
The catalytic converter is designed to reduce emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and unburned hydrocarbons. For normal operation of the converter, the composition of the exhaust gases (in particular, the oxygen content in them) must be within strictly specified limits. This function is performed by the electronic engine control unit (ECU), which determines the amount of fuel supplied depending on the signals from the oxygen concentration sensors.

Downpipe to exhaust manifold connection:
1 - spring;
2 - pressure plate;
3 - nut
Exhaust manifold:
1 - O-ring for connecting the manifold to the exhaust pipe;
2 - exhaust manifold;
3 – a sealing lining of connection of a collector and a head of the block of cylinders;
4 - exhaust manifold screen

Connect the pipes of the new assembly with the pipes of the exhaust system with a special clamp
In the presence of lead compounds in the exhaust gases, the catalytic converter and oxygen concentration sensors quickly fail. Therefore, the operation of a car on leaded gasoline is strictly prohibited, even for a short time.
Also, the cause of the failure of the converter may be a faulty ignition system or power supply system. In the event of a misfire, unburned fuel entering the converter burns out and sinters the catalyst block in it, which can lead to blockage of the exhaust system and stop (or severe loss of power) of the engine.
Mufflers and catalytic converter are non-separable units, in case of failure they must be replaced with new ones. Spare parts are supplied with a catalytic converter with a front pipe, additional and main mufflers with pipes of a certain length, as well as special clamps for connecting pipes. To replace an individual element of the whole system, marks (punching) are applied on its pipes in two places, along which pipes can be cut.
Maintenance of the exhaust system consists in its periodic inspection, checking for tightness of connections and the presence of through corrosion, tightening loose connections and replacing rubber suspension pads.
