Checking and replacing the speed sensor in the engine of a Ford Focus 2 car

Note:

The vehicle speed sensor on vehicles with 1.4 and 1.6 l R4 Duratec 16V engines, as well as 1.6 l R4 16V Duratec Ti-VCT, is installed on the gearbox near the right front wheel drive.

You will need a flat blade screwdriver.

Checking and replacing the speed sensor with a Ford Focus 2

1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

2. Lift up the speed sensor harness heat shield.

3. Squeeze the latch and disconnect the Ford Focus 2 speed sensor from the wiring harness.

Note:

For clarity, the following operations are shown on the removed gearbox.

4. With a screwdriver, remove the tab of the locking pin from the recess in the gearbox housing.

5. Remove the lock pin.

6. Remove the speed sensor from the hole in the Ford Focus 2 gearbox housing.

7. Inspect the sensor o-ring. If there is any damage and traces of oil on the gearbox housing around the sensor, replace the ring with a new one.

8. Install the speed sensor in the reverse order of removal.
