  • pressure gauge

Notes:

Checking the fuel pressure in the fuel rail of the engine is possible only if there is a pressure gauge with a hose for connection to the fuel line.

The main indicator of the health of the engine power system is the fuel pressure in the fuel rail.  However, you can start the check with the air filter (see "Checking and replacing the air filter element" ) and its condition, as this is done quickly and easily.

If the air filter is in order, then it is necessary to check the connection of electrical contacts in the wiring harnesses of the injection system units that are responsible for supplying fuel (electric fuel pump, injectors).

The next step is to check the pressure in the fuel rail of the engine. However, in order to carry it out on your own, you need to have a special pressure gauge that can be connected to the fuel pipeline. To do this, we do the following:

1.  Turn on the ignition and listen: if there is a slight noise, then the electric fuel pump has started its work. If it is not audible, then you need to check the electrical supply circuit of the electric fuel pump.

2. We check the fuel pressure in the fuel rail of the engine, as described here.  It should be at the level of 0.3 MPa (3 kgf / cm2). In this case, the engine must run at idle speed.

Note:

The petrol pump may not work if there is pressure in the fuel supply system. That is, if you have already turned on the ignition before and tried to start the engine, then a working pump should create pressure in the fuel supply system. Therefore, if in such a situation it does not work, then in this case this is not a malfunction.

The absence or decrease in pressure, as a rule, occurs for the following reasons:

-  the fuel pressure pulsation compensator is faulty (installed on 1.6 liter Ti-VCT engines);

the fuel pressure regulator is faulty (built into the fuel pump module);

-  clogged fuel filter (built into the fuel pump module);

-  The fuel pump is faulty (installed in the fuel tank).

Warning:

If you do not have the necessary knowledge and skills, then you should not get into the engine of a Ford Focus 2 car, as this can worsen the situation and aggravate the problem. In this case, it is better to contact specialists who can identify and fix the problem.
