Note:
If you notice that the doors began to open and close too tightly or if they were not tight enough, and the trailing edge of the door protrudes from the outer body elements, then the Nissan X-Trail door lock needs to be adjusted. But it should also be remembered that such malfunctions can also be associated with other reasons, such as play of the door hinges due to wear, deformation of the hinges, the door itself or the body. To accurately determine the cause, you will need to remove the lock latch.
The adjustment of the locks on the front and rear doors is the same.
Nissan X-Trail Door Lock Adjustment
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the ignition.
2. Open the door.
3. If an overlay is installed, remove it from the lock retainer.
4. To be able to return to the original settings, mark the position of the door lock latch.
5. Using a Torx T40 wrench, remove the 2 retainer screws.
6. Remove the retainer.
7. Close the door tightly and check the gaps around its perimeter.
8. If the door "sags", raise its back. If you manage to move the door up, it means that the hinges are worn out. The distortion of the door in the opening can be caused either by the deformation of the frame of the door itself, or by the power elements of the body. In any case, body repair is necessary.
9. If the closed door in the opening is located evenly, and the gaps along its perimeter are uniform, install the lock retainer in place and tighten the screws of its fastening, but not completely.
10. By moving the lock left and right and up and down, adjust the Nissan X-Trail door so that it closes easily and tightly.
11. After finishing the adjustment, tighten the screws securing the lock retainer to 17 N•m.
