Rice. 7.32 . Camry car starter: 1 - permanent magnet; 2 - brush; 3 - anchor; 4 - end collector; 5 - yoke
When the key in the ignition switch is turned to the start position, voltage is applied to the contact of the electromagnetic traction relay installed at the top of the starter. The armature of the traction relay is retracted, moves the gear with a freewheel through the drive lever and engages it with the flywheel ring gear. After the gear is engaged with the flywheel ring gear, the starter motor is turned on, which turns the engine crankshaft. After starting the engine, the speed of the gear exceeds the speed of the starter armature, and the freewheel does not transmit torque from the engine flywheel to the starter armature shaft ( Fig. 7.32 ).
