Changing the coolant in a Ford Focus 2 car

Tools:

• Screwdriver flat medium
• Torx wrench (star) T30

Parts and consumables:

• Coolant
• rags
• A clean container with a volume of about 10 liters for draining the old coolant
• Funnel

Notes:

Antifreeze is in circulation all year round, therefore, over time, it loses its anti-corrosion and detergent properties, and this, in turn, leads to a decrease in the motor resource.

The manufacturer of the Ford Focus 2 car recommends replacing the coolant  every 60,000 kilometers, or every five years of operation of the car, it all depends on which comes first.

The process of replacing antifreeze is best done on a flyover or inspection hole.

Change the coolant  only when the engine is cold.

Replacing antifreeze with a Ford Focus 2

1. Let the engine cool down. After it has cooled, remove the cap from the expansion tank to relieve residual pressure.

2. We unscrew the screws that hold the lower engine protection with a Torx T30 key . Then we remove the protection.

3. We find a drain hole on the lower tank of the radiator. Using a screwdriver, turn the drain plug. After that, we substitute a clean container under the cork. 

Useful advice:

In order for the liquid to drain on the Ford Focus 2 with less intensity, you need to close the cap of the expansion tank. After all the liquid has flowed out, do not forget to remove it again.

Note:

Antifreeze is deadly poisonous to all living things. In order not to pollute the environment, drain it from the radiator through a funnel (for example, made from a plastic soda bottle).

4. We screw the drain plug back and fill in new antifreeze through a special hole in the expansion tank.

Warning:

Before starting the engine, tightly wrap the plug in the expansion tank , otherwise a geyser is provided - during operation it is under pressure.

5. After the antifreeze has risen to the upper MAX mark  on the expansion tank, start the engine and let it warm up to its operating temperature (before turning on the electric fan). Do not forget to watch the level, if necessary, fill in more coolant.

Note:

After a few days, measure the level of antifreeze again, and at the same time check its color: a high-quality liquid only darkens over time, retaining the main color. If it suddenly turns brown or discolored, then this means that you have come across a fake product that needs to be urgently replaced before the liquid has had time to corrode the cooling system!
