Removal and installation of the steering knuckle Skoda Octavia

Tool:

• screw jack
• balloon wrench
• Automotive supports
• Box wrench curved 16 mm
• Open-end wrench 18 mm
• Key with Torx tip (asterisk) Т24
• Key with Torx tip (asterisk) М16
• Hex Key 7mm
• Screwdriver flat medium
• Phillips screwdriver, medium
• Ball joint puller
• Small hammer

Parts and consumables:

• New steering knuckle
• Nut 18 mm - 3 pcs
• piece of wire
• wooden block

1.  Remove the desired wheel using the wheelbrace.

2. Raise and place the front of the vehicle on stands.

3. Turn out a bolt of fastening of a drive to a nave. You will need a Torx M16 wrench.

4. Remove the bolt.

5. Turn away a nut of fastening of a finger of the hinge of an external tip of steering draft to a rotary fist of Skoda Octavia. You will need a key for 16 and 18.

6. Install the ball joint puller. Need a key for 18.

7. Press out the outer tie rod end pin from the steering knuckle arm.

8. Disconnect the harness connector from the wheel speed sensor.

9. Turn out a bolt of fastening of the gauge of frequency of rotation of a wheel. You need a 7mm hex.

10. Remove the sensor from the mounting hole in the steering knuckle of the Skoda Octavia.

11. Pry with a flat blade screwdriver and remove the brake hose retainer.

12. Remove the brake hose from the mounting bracket.

13. Use a flat blade screwdriver to remove the cap from the lower and upper caliper guide bolts.

14. Turn out two bolts of fastening of directing a brake support to a rotary fist. You need a Torx T24 key.

15. Remove the brake caliper assembly without disconnecting the brake hose.

16. Remove the front wheel brake disc.

17. Turn away three nuts of fastening of a spherical support to the bottom lever and take away the lever from a support. Need a key for 18.

Note:
When assembling, replace the nuts securing the ball joint to the front suspension arm with new ones.

18. Turn away a nut of a bolt of fastening of a shock-absorber rack to a rotary fist of Skoda Octavia and take a bolt. Need a key for 18.

19. Push out of the hub (in the direction of the gearbox), as far as possible, the splined shank of the outer constant velocity joint (CV joint) of the front wheel drive.

Note:

If it is difficult to remove the shank of the external hinge, carefully, without damaging the threads, knock it out of the hub with a hammer through a drift or a wooden block of a suitable size.

20. While holding the drive shaft from a sharp lowering, remove the steering knuckle assembly with the hub.

21. Hang the drive shaft on the wire.

22. Turn out four bolts of fastening and remove a nave. You will need a Torx T 24 key.

23. Turn out three screws of fastening of a board of the brake mechanism of a forward wheel.

24. Remove the shield.

25.  Install the new Skoda Octavia steering knuckle in the reverse order of removal.

26. Install the wheel speed sensor in the reverse order of removal.

Note:

If the anti-lock brake system (ABS) warning light does not turn off after installing the wheel speed sensor, have the anti-lock brake system (ABS) diagnosed by a dealer.

When installing the sensor, align the hole in the sensor housing exactly with the threaded hole in the knuckle. During installation, do not rotate the sensor around the longitudinal axis. An increase in resistance to the movement of the sensor should be felt only the last 2 mm before it is fully seated in the fist. If the sensor from the very beginning of installation enters the fist hole with great resistance, remove the sensor and eliminate the cause of jamming (dirt, burr on the case, etc.) It is strictly forbidden to press the wheel speed sensor with a hammer.

27.  If necessary, replace the second fist in the same way.
