Remove the fuel tank for flushing or replacement.
We perform work on a viewing ditch or overpass, preferably with an empty tank.
Tank removal operations are shown on a 4×4 vehicle.
We relieve the fuel pressure in the power system and disconnect the wiring harness block from the fuel module cover connector.
Connection of the filler neck with the filler pipe in the wheel arch of the right rear wheel.
We disconnect the tip of the "mass" wire from the outlet of the filling pipe.
Removing the filler cap...
... and remove the rubber sealing ring from the neck flange.
With a Torx T-20 wrench, we unscrew the two self-tapping screws securing the neck to the filling pipe.
The heat shield of the additional muffler is attached to the bottom of the tank with four pistons.
Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the piston retainer a few turns ...
... and, prying with a slotted screwdriver, we remove the piston.
Similarly, we remove three more pistons for securing the heat shield ...
...and take the screen.
We derive one of the parking brake cables from the front holder on the fuel tank.
With side cutters, we bite the plastic clamp that fixes the rear holder of the parking brake cable ...
... and remove the cable from the rear holder.
Similarly, we derive another parking brake cable from the two holders on the tank.
Under the bottom of the car, two tubes fit to the front of the fuel tank: 1 - a tube connected to the adsorber of the fuel vapor recovery system; 2 - a tube that connects to the fuel filter in the engine compartment.
By pressing the latch of the tip (gray) of the fuel supply pipe to the filter, disconnect the tip from the tube connected to the fitting of the fuel module cover.
Similarly, disconnect the tip (black) of the other tube from the tube connecting to the fuel tank.
Places of fastening of a fuel tank to the bottom of the car: 1 – bolts of back fastening; 2 – nuts of lateral fastening; 3 – a bolt of forward fastening.
We install an adjustable stop under the fuel tank, placing a wooden block so as not to damage the tank.
With a high “13” head, we unscrew the two nuts of the side fastening of the fuel tank ...
... two bolts of the rear and a bolt of the front tank mounts.
We remove the metal gasket from the flanging of the tank.
Similarly, remove the other metal gasket.
Letting the tank down a bit...
... we translate the parking brake cables through it.
When lowering the tank, we control the separation of the filler neck and its plastic adapter in connection with the body.
We lower the fuel tank on an adjustable stop, holding the filler pipe.
We remove the tank assembly with the fuel module.
If necessary, remove the fuel module from the tank.
Install the fuel tank in reverse order.
Fill the tank with fuel, turn on the ignition and check the tightness of the fuel line connections.
On a 4×2 vehicle, the operations for removing the fuel tank are almost the same (only there is no operation to remove the driveline) as on a 4×4 vehicle.
