Note:
The timing belt removal procedure for the 1MZ-FE Toyota Camry engine is shown here .
1. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC of the compression stroke.
2. Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt and, turning the crankshaft, align the alignment marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pump housing.
Checking the coincidence of the marks on the toothed pulleys of the camshafts with the marks on the cover No. 3 of the timing belt
3. Using the special tool, rotate the camshafts, aligning the alignment marks on the toothed pulleys of the shafts and the cover No. 3 of the timing belt.
4. Remove, if any, any liquid from the toothed pulleys and rollers.
5. Install the timing belt.
When installing a reusable belt, make sure the arrow points in the direction the belt rotates. Align the timing marks on the belt and crankshaft pulley. Align the alignment marks on the belt and camshaft pulleys. Install the timing belt, putting it on the elements in the specified sequence, as shown in the figure:
The sequence of installing the timing belt on the elements of the mechanism:
1 – a gear pulley of a cranked shaft;
2 – a pulley of the pump of a cooling liquid;
3 – a pulley of a forward camshaft;
4 - intermediate pulley;
5 - rear camshaft pulley;
6 - roller tensioner.
6. Install the timing belt tensioner . Move the tensioner rod so as to align the holes on the rod and the tensioner body (force 980–9800 N). Lock the stem with a 1.27mm hex wrench. or regular wire.
7. Install the boot on the tensioner. Alternately tighten the two bolts securing the tensioner to a torque of 27 Nm. Remove the hex wrench that secures the stem.
8. Check the valve timing. Turn the crankshaft one turn until the alignment marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pump housing are aligned. Check if the alignment marks on the camshaft pulleys and timing belt cover No. 3 are aligned.
Note:
If it doesn't, reinstall the belt.
9. Turn away a bolt of a pulley of a cranked shaft.
10. Install the right engine mount, securing it with a tightening torque of 28 Nm.
11. Install the timing belt cover No. 2 and tighten the five bolts with a tightening torque of 8 Nm. Check if the belt cover gasket has not cracked or delaminated.
Note:
Replace gasket if necessary.
12. Install the wiring guard on the #3 timing belt cover.
13. Install the timing belt guide with the protruding part facing out.
Installing the timing belt guide
14. Install the timing belt cover No. 1 and tighten the four bolts with a tightening torque of 8 Nm.
15. Install the crankshaft pulley by aligning the key on the crankshaft with the keyway on the pulley, and using the special tool, tighten the pulley bolt to 216 Nm.
16. Install generator bracket #2 and install hinge bolt and nut without tightening them.
