Notes:
This article describes how to change the oil in a Skoda engine.
On a Skoda Fabia car, we change the engine oil in accordance with the maintenance schedule every 15 thousand kilometers. We change the oil only together with the oil filter.
We carry out the replacement on an idle engine (preferably immediately after the trip), until the oil has cooled down.
We perform work on a viewing ditch or overpass.

Oil filter location.
1. Using a 19 wrench, loosen the engine oil drain plug.
Note:
On a Skoda car, the drain plug is located in the engine oil pan.
2. Place a technical container under the drain plug and carefully unscrew the drain plug by hand.
Warning:
Be careful - the oil is hot!
3. Drain the oil for at least 10 minutes.
4. Wipe the drain plug with a clean cloth and screw in the drain plug by hand and then tighten it with a wrench (tightening torque 30 Nm).
5. Use a 36 wrench to loosen the filter cover by turning it counterclockwise (the filter cover is already unscrewed in the photo).
Note:
Do not remove the filter immediately. Let it stand for 10 minutes in the unscrewed state so that the oil is glass.
6. Carefully remove the filter cover.
7. The filter is fixed inside the housing. To change the filter, you need to lightly tap its cover (protrusion similar to a nut) on a wooden block, and then remove the filter by hand.
8. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry and remove the three O-rings on the oil filter cover stem.
9. Pry with a screwdriver and remove the sealing ring from the threaded element of the oil filter cover.
10. Lubricate the O-rings with engine oil and install three new O-rings on the oil filter cap.
11. Install a new oil filter in the cap.

12. Install the cover with the oil filter in the seat.
13. Tighten the cover by hand until the cover touches its base and tighten with a wrench to a torque of 25 Nm.
14. Fill with oil to the correct level as described in this article .
Note:
We start the engine for 1-2 minutes. We make sure that the emergency oil pressure lamp in the engine went out in the instrument cluster. If there are oil leaks from under the filter and drain plug, tighten the filter and plug. We stop the engine and check the oil level again, as described above. If necessary, add oil, but not above the top step of the dipstick, otherwise excess oil will enter the cylinders through the crankcase ventilation system, and the products of oil combustion can damage the catalytic converter.
Useful advice:
To facilitate topping up the oil, it is convenient to use a funnel. In the absence of a funnel for adding oil, you can make a funnel from the neck of a plastic bottle.
