Ford Focus 3 Coolant Pump Replacement

Tools:

• Key "on 8"
• Key "on 10"
• Key "on 13"
• Key "18"
• Key "for 19"
• Screwdriver with flat blade
• Knife
• Special tool for installing the belt
• Special tools for locking camshafts, crankshafts, and timing belt tensioner

Note:

Remove the Ford Focus 3 water pump for repair or replacement if noise occurs during its operation, the level of which exceeds the usual level and which appears when a large radial play of the pump shaft is formed, as well as when coolant leaks from the pump shaft seal.
Dismantling the pump is quite laborious, therefore, in the event of a malfunction, we recommend replacing the pump assembly.

Ford Focus 3 Coolant Pump Replacement (1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT Engine)

1. Drain the liquid from the engine cooling system.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
3. Remove the timing belt.

WARNING:

After removing the timing belt, it is forbidden to turn the crankshaft and camshafts, as the valves may be damaged by the pistons.

4. Remove six bolts 3 (Fig. 5.28) securing the water pump 2 to the engine block, pry the water pump housing with a screwdriver and remove the pump together with the timing belt tensioner pulley.

NOTE:

The timing belt tensioner is attached to the water pump housing.

5. Remove the gasket installed between the water pump housing and the engine block.

WARNING:

Always replace the water pump housing seal with a new one every time it is removed, regardless of its condition.

6. Install the water pump in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the pump mounting bolts evenly crosswise with a torque of 10 N m.

USEFUL ADVICE:

Lubricate the sealing gasket of the water pump housing on both sides with a thin layer of sealant.

7. Install the timing belt and adjust its tension.

Rice. 5.28. 1.6L DuratecTi-VCT engine water pump:

• 1 - tension roller of the timing belt;
• 2 - water pump;
• 3 - bolts for fastening the water pump to the engine block.

8. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.

WARNING:

Replace the accessory drive belt with a new one, as it cannot be reused after removal.

9. Fill in a cooling liquid and remove air plugs from the cooling system.

Ford Focus 3 water pump replacement (2.0 L Duratec Ti-VCT engine)

You will need: keys “for 8”, “for 10”, “for 13”, “for 18”, “for 19”, a knife, a special tool for installing the auxiliary drive belt, special tools for blocking camshafts and crankshafts, and also the timing belt tensioner pulley.

1. Drain the liquid from the engine cooling system.

2. Remove the accessory drive belt.

3. Turn out three bolts of fastening of a pulley of the water pump...

4. ... and remove the pulley.

5. Turn out bolts of fastening of the water pump...

6. ... and remove the pump.
7. Remove the gasket installed between the water pump housing and the engine block.

WARNING:

Always replace the water pump housing seal with a new one every time it is removed, regardless of its condition.

8. Install the water pump in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the pump mounting bolts evenly crosswise to a torque of 10 Nm.

USEFUL ADVICE:

Lubricate the sealing gasket of the water pump housing on both sides with a thin layer of sealant.

9. Install all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.

WARNING:

Replace the accessory drive belts with new ones, since after removal they cannot be reused.

10. Fill in coolant and remove air plugs from the cooling system.
