Note:

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, the coolant on the Honda Civic should be replaced for the first time after 200 thousand kilometers, then every 100 thousand kilometers.

The coolant is toxic, so be careful when handling it.

When starting the engine, the plugs of the expansion tank and radiator must be closed.

Change the coolant only  when the engine is cold.

What antifreeze to pour in a Honda Civic

Pour Honda Type 2 antifreeze (P/N OL999-9001) or equivalent into the cooling system.

Do not add any additional corrosion inhibitors or other additives to the Honda Civic coolant. These products may react with antifreeze or be aggressive to engine or radiator materials.

When adding fluid, you can only mix one type of antifreeze, not a color, since the color is just a dye.

It is forbidden to pour water (even distilled) into the Honda Civic radiator , because in the heat at a temperature of 100ºС the water will boil and scale will form. In cold weather, the water will freeze, the pipes and the radiator will simply break.

The procedure for replacing coolant on a Honda Civic

1.  Install the car on a flyover or other elevation.

4. Get under the car. Place a container under the Honda Civic radiator drain valve.

8. Start the engine and let it run until the electric fan turns on. Flush the cooling system until clean water begins to drain.

9. Fill the engine cooling system by slowly pouring coolant into the Honda Civic radiator to the level of the vapor tube.

10. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature (before turning on the fan).

11. As air escapes from the system, add Honda Civic fluid to the tank (the fan will turn off 3-5 times until the air is completely out).

12.  Close the radiator cap tightly.

Note:

Tighten the filler cap of the radiator of the engine cooling system tightly. When the engine is running, the cooling system is under pressure, so coolant may leak from under a loosely wrapped plug or the plug may be torn off.

13. Open the cap of the expansion tank.

14. Add antifreeze to the Honda Civic expansion tank up to the “MAX” mark.

An example is shown on a removed tank.

15. Screw on the reservoir lid. Wipe up spilled coolant with a clean cloth.

Note:

For better filling of the system without air pockets, periodically squeeze the radiator hoses by hand.

16. After a few days of car operation after replacing the coolant with a Honda Civic, check its level. If necessary, bring it to the level.
